It sounds closer than it is. I don't have the numbers handy, but the Sabres are at the point where they have to start winning something like 2 of every 3 games for the rest of the season to get to the mid-90s in points, where 8th usually falls. I have no reason to believe they're going to start winning at that pace for 2 months. I'm pretty sure they're not even going to go out and win at that pace for the next 2 weeks. I'm not saying fire sale, but if a good deal comes along to get a solid prospect for one of our older players, I'd be listening.

What is all this player analysis doing in a math and record thread? Current wildcard teams are .557 and .518 P%, East and West, respectively. Both off the .585 and .530 the wildcard teams had last year at the end of the season. We'll have to see if they pace picks up as the season goes on.

The only way I see a first is if it's something like contender 1st (20-30) for Gio and Sabres 2nd (35-45 range).

I watched the highlights last night to cheer me up, and damn, you're right. That's one of those plays that only a few players attempt but seems to work, the goalie starts to move with the player to "stay square" the top corner opens up. It must be incredibly hard to hit that shot otherwise more players would do it.

Ghost could be a higher apex Gragnani (SP!), Myers, or Cory Conacher just as easily as being in a sopohmore slump. These decisions are how good GMs earn their money.

I agree. I think he signs here if Buffalo offers 2 years, but it's a lot less likely if he's a deadline trade before that.

Vegas is picking (IIRC) 30 NHL players in June, you have to figure the average cost of the top-end exposed players will be around $3M. I don't think they're going to have trouble getting to the floor, so they'd only pick up Moulson if they really thought they'd be bringing in talent.

Easier said than done. If Gionta is going to sign a 1 or 2 year deal, why Buffalo and not a team that'll be competitive next season? I know he's marginally local, but if I'm him and my goal is a shot at the cup in the next 2 years, Buffalo is not where I'm signing.
