  1. My wife stopped at the Gigante! and brought home a bunch of Oaxaca cheese today. Awesome stuff.
  2. Duchene is only signed through next season. It's unlikely he'd sign a 3 year deal at 27-28 years old, so you either get him for 2 years (heck no) or 8-9 years, years 3-9 of those at probably $8M+
  3. I've used both ChromeCast and Roku (a little, just got it). Chromecast: Model of operation: your smart device (phone or Chrome browser) tells the Chromecast "go play this stream", and it goes out to the internets and does it. Once it's kicked off, your smart device doesn't have much to do with it, other than control (pause, etc.). Pros: you can start the game from your laptop or phone and then forget about it and use your device normally. The quality is pretty good; 1080p quality although the frame rate isn't always quite as good as a cable HD feed. Side pro: a lot of other stuff works pretty well, you can cast youtube videos, etc. pretty easily. Also, many music services support it so you can play music through the TV with it's (hopefully) better speakers than a laptop or phone. Cons: it is supposed to be different this year, but last year the Android app and Chromecast could only start "live", and not from the beginning of the game. IIRC, there was no rewind, but maybe pause worked. I don't know why, but I never tried it from the browser to start from the beginning. Also, you cannot control the quality so if there's a bandwidth issue the CC will skip or keep dropping between a lower quality and then trying the better quality for a bit and failing. Also Also, If I remember right, replays didn't pick up where you left off if you were interrupted so it behooved you to keep a note of roughly where you were in the feed so you could skip forward. Side con: Amazon Video doesn't play well with Chromecast. You can cast a browser window, but the quality isn't as good as a real app. Roku: Roku is a little box that plugs into your TV. You use a remote or your phone to control it, more like a smart TV or Playstation. You launch the NHL app, select a feed, and the roku starts streaming. Pros: doesn't involve any other devices at all, just wifi and TV. I believe you can start from the beginning, pause, rewind, etc. I haven't tried it enough to give a full review, but it did work the one game I played, although I just put it on and left it. Bonus pro: the Tunein app on roku gets the Bills games if you select WGR. The WGR and tunein apps on Android do not, and I believe that carries over to Chromecast too. Cons: Incomplete; haven't run into them with my limited usage.
  4. The kids (5-10 years) around my neighborhood used to play pickup football and baseball in our yards (kids on either side of me, so they'd use all three-four yards as a field). Sadly, the three houses with kids have all switched hands in the last year or two; on the bright side I hit the new neighbor lottery on all counts. I think I read he used his girlfriends info to book the room? I thought I read that he was known, but that was early on in the fog of war.
  5. He may be more valuable to THIS TEAM as a wing, but what's better, maximizing value to this team, or maximizing value of the player? The answer is probably how willing you'd be to move Sam (or ROR (I'd say Eichel too, but that's unlikely)). If you maximize Sam's centre capabilities and then trade him for a better RW than Sam is, you're better off, right? Or if Sam and Eichel at Centre and ROR at LW is a better aggregate than ROR and Eichel at Centre and Sam at RW. Give the state of Buffalo's LW, the former may be better.
  6. This drifted into a lot of Housely discussion, which presumably has been moved over to the appropriate thread.
  7. That sucks. I never really considered myself a fan, but at the same time I have a greatest hits album around here that for awhile I sang along to a lot in my car.
  8. Apparently, Moulson and Gorges have modified NTCs, with varying reports of how many teams they cannot be traded to (12-17 depending on source).
  9. Minimal benefit and a bad look for the team. Having Moulson around as the 13th forward is a lot better look than shipping him to the AHL. Plus, if he somehow finds some game with the new system maybe some team trades a pick for him around the deadline. Side note: didn't some player the Sabres signed in the last several years have a delayed NTC/NMC that started after year X of their deal? Could that be Moulson?
  10. I feel you, just running isn't the sport for me. Misshapen feet and questionable knees just can't take that kind of beating. I do walk here and there and now that my shoulder is feeling OK I'll get back on the bicycle.
  11. My wife and I were doing the Spanish stuff for a couple months (we have Spanish speaking family; trips to Mexico are on the horizon). I didn't get fluent by any means, but I was listening to some podcast and realized I understood the person say, "Would you like some water?" En espaniol. Baby steps. I switched over to learning Japanese more recently and that's a tough one as it goes straight into learning Hiragana and then Katakana and Kanji (the writing systems) so it's learning what sounds the characters make and then trying to remember the words. I feel like if I really kept up with it I'd be at least passable at getting my point across in either, but I've been slacking lately and need to restart both.
  12. I dunno, dying in a ditch 2 miles from home sounds pretty stressful. :) (that's the inevitable conclusion of me trying to run 5 miles)
  13. This is nice, but I still remember 2011. And 2008.
  14. I like this app. It seems to kinda work for me. https://www.duolingo.com/
  15. You forgot "Josie's art is making inroads at UB, "
  16. 80 minutes to get to work this morning, when I specifically left early to get to a meeting. Missed the meeting. Bright side: it was a nice day to sit in traffic on backroads with the windows open, and I'm not the guy that lost the wrong-way sedan vs. semi encounter that started the whole thing. RIP.
  17. I do accept that the cut off is mostly arbitrary, but at the same time picks 1-5 are almost always an impact player, where 6-10 are generally going to be NHL players but not necessarily difference makers. I'll put it this way, if you were sitting on pick #3, would you trade it for pick 8 and 9 in the same draft? I don't think most teams do it, and that tells me the relative values of those picks.
  18. Muenster sandwich for lunch with brown horseradish mustard on some seedy bread.
  19. Toronto was bad for several years while the Sabres were trying to be good. They're on like year 4 or 5 of their rebuild. Someone upthread posted about that many of their good players now were top-10 picks. That's why they're ahead. Matthews, Marner, Nylander, and Reilly are all top-5 picks in the last 5 years. The Sabres last 3 are Eichel, Reinhart, and Vanek, and before that Turgeon? The Maple Leafs were bad for years, stock piled talent, and have had a great coach for the last two years. They are at least a year, if not 2 or 3 ahead of the Sabres in rebuild.
  20. And a fan in the stands when he was a player!
  21. Can we change the name of Alamo mode at the end of a game up by one to Roquefort?
  22. I believe it originates from:
  23. I stopped at Aldi last night to pick up some bread (already had milk and eggs, natch), and ended up with sliced gouda, havarti, and muenster. Smurf you guys for putting this in my head. And smurf you too that I want Five Guys after the burger discussion.
