Housley with some really strong words postgame
MattPie replied to matter2003's topic in The Aud Club
Vegas has the advantage (and disadvantage) that every person on the team is on a new team, so they're paying attention to the little things because they don't have familiar habits from the previous season. And the idea that they don't have players that are front and center means they're all interchangeable. Good insight, Randall! It'll be interesting to see how the Debylsmaticification of this team proceeds; I saw flashes of it last night, where a Sabre would have the puck along the wall or in the D zone under pressure, and another Sabre would skate by with some speed and receive a 10ft pass to spring the rush. -
Sabres Trying to Avoid Snap Decision with Reinhart

True. I remember a great sequence in Reinhart's first season where it was uncanny how well he placed himself in front of the GT on the powerplay. The puck would move from side to side and Reinhart would seamlessly move with it to be directly in the GT's sight line the entire time like a well-choreographed dance.

Were you shopping with another woman at the time?

It seemed like there were flashes of ye olde ROR last night. He'd come into a pile up for the puck and skate away with it, or put a check on a guy and almost immediately have the puck. My rose-colored glasses say he's getting more comfortable with what the system does and his effective speed will increase as decision time goes down. And yeah, I saw that break, I remember thinking he'd been out on the ice for awhile too.

Jagr, LaFontaine, Gretzky, Hasek, Patrick Roy, Housely, Peter Forsberg, Messier, Brett Hull, Ciccarelli, Doug Gillmour; those are just the HoF players I sampled through. Well, not Jagr but that's just a matter of time; I'm sure by 2034 when he's been retired a couple years he'll be inducted.

The team would certainly look better this year if we had, no doubt in my mind. Last year, too.- 524 replies

I'd imagine the Subban has literally never seen a shot like Jack's. Jack needs to use it and surprise him a few times. It would truly be fortuitous for there to be an ubiquity of goals with inequity in our favor.- 651 replies

He has 34 actual SOG (not shots attempted)? That's just a statistical anomaly them, there's no way it'll stay at 3%. (right?)

I think almost everyone that read the piece on Connelly reversed their stance. And some people here led an effort to get the avatar changed. Too late? Maybe, but pointing out people's mistakes after they've made amends is bad form.

Goaltending Controversy: Robin or Chad... or Linus
MattPie replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Aud Club
He can do that because he's the exception to "the puck moves faster than the player". -
Come on, it's Bert Lahr. That's an easy one.

Which is the one Kareen Abdul Jabbar had where eggs were coming out of his mouth?

Goaltending Controversy: Robin or Chad... or Linus

I want Lehner to succeed, but realistically he's looked terrible this year. Not, "well, the team isn't playing well in front of him" terrible, little things like being on one post while the puck flies by the other post, and awkwardly making the first save and leaving the net open. He's really fighting it. -
Man, the Leafs are stacked; Marner is better than every single Sabre and he's skating on the fourth line!

Amusing, not weird! :) -
He is. He gave a presentation about it a few years ago at the national BMW rally in Gillette WY and then rode home, straight through 20-something hours. Someone mentioned he had a cancer scare several years ago and is in solid Carpe diem mode. Absolutely the one of the nicest people you'll ever meet, too.

Cars. Yes it's a kids movie and old, but it's one of my favorite movies all-time. -
He played Minnesota High School hockey last year and tore it up (64 points in 25 games (!!!)) and USHL (30 points in 24 games), but that's lesser competition than Canadian Juniors or NCAA, so scouts were wary that he was a big fish in small pond.

On average, maybe, but that's only with Moulson dragging Reinhart down. You're going to have to be pretty persuasive to convince me that either of those two players that couldn't crack the team coming out of camp are better than a guy with 40 goals and 80+ points in his first two years in the league. I might even go so far as to say Samson will have more points and goals than those two combined this year.

It's deceptive that the North Atlantic current brings a lot of heat north so the climate is much warmer than other parts of the globe at that latitude. Doug had a wolf run with him for awhile on the way up, that's the closest thing I can think of. :) The last 300-400 miles of the trip are this terrible dirt road where there's no services other than a little town halfway. Definitely risky stuff. He wrote it up for the BMW Club magazine, if you're interested. He's nuts. http://www.mac-pac.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/haul_road.pdf I like this line, "So my theme for the trip was kept simple: ride to Prudhoe Bay, have a swim, and ride home to Philadelphia."
