Were there message boards at that time? If so, that must have been fun.

    Old-man history mode:

The WWIV dial-up BBS software was popular around Buffalo in the late-80s and early-90s. For those who never used one, someone would run a (usually) DOS program on a PC with a modem and you could dial into it from your computer. DMs and Message boards, not unlike here. One person at a time, with time-limits. Later, these were networked (by dialing each other periodically and exchanging new messages) so you all didn't have to show up serially on one system. One of the largest networks of these was IceNet, which was founded by a guy named Jim Nunn in Buffalo. For awhile, I was a SysOp on Chain Reaction BBS, which I think was an IceNet node.

Thanks for the prompt to unlock some old memories. I don't specifically remember talking Bills back then, but I can't believe there weren't some boards focused on sports.

    Usenet.

That too, just not as many people outside universities had access to it at the time. FreeNet run out of UB I think had usenet, but it's been a long time, lol. I love these old "Internet" articles: https://www.buffalo.edu/ubreporter/archive/vol26/vol26n2/1a.txt

(Thanks for indulging my ramblings, lol.

It's time to put on our gear.

It's time to light the light.

It's time to get things started on the Sabres show tonight!

To introduce our goal scorer, that's what I'm here to do,

it really makes me happy to introduce to you ...

    Mr. Tage Thompson!!!!!   Yeeeeeeeaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!

It's the most sensational, inspirational, Sabresnational, this is what we call the Sabres Shhhhhhhooooooooooowwwwwwwwwww.

(Then have Ray and Biron make a little snide remark to each other like Statler and Waldorf always did.)

You could use the second verse as-is:

    Quote

Why do we always come here?

    I guess we'll never know.

It's like a kind of torture,

To have to watch the show.

I would have never guessed there'd be someone pushing for Peaches as a goal song, but this is something I could really get behind.

Can you imagine 19000 fans doing the peaches chant?!?!

I can't even imagine 19,000 people coming to a game, never mind singing along.

After the tank, this was my suggestion. It's even more relevant now.

Hamilton came really close to ripping our hearts out.

The angle from behind looked like he may have gotten a little bit of it; the ball may have changed direction a little on the way.

Here's one for you:  Josh Allen holds the record for the most total touchdowns (passing + rushing) in a player's first eight seasons, with 262 touchdowns through his first eight years in the NFL.  Last night's game was the first game of his 8th season, and he already held the record before kickoff.

I think I saw that he only needs like 6 rushing TDs this year to have the record (or some top-N) for TDs in the first 8 years. There are 4 guys like Marshall Faulk and whatnot on the list ahead of him. Sure, different eras but wild.

Mine would be a game when I was younger with my Father. We lost. I was like “wait? We don’t play anymore?”

I remember that visceral feeling when I was little too. Boston, playoffs, checking: 1983, almost sure.

I remember thinking there were a bunch on people on the ice, and there they are.

But that's unlikely as low as now.

I'm taking the 17th spot and I'm giving it to @nobody so he can be an invisible defensive back.

The loaves have made the playoffs for a long time (something we, the Sabres faithful, would kill for) ... they just traded away Marner. Shrug emoji sums it up for me.

Well, if the Sabres trade Doan to the Leafs *of course* he's not going to win a cup there. Let's not be ridiculous.

And I do get your point, probably half of every SC winner's roster played somewhere else before that. Buffalo isn't unique in that regard. That doesn't make my statement (joke) any less true, he's more likely to win a cup if the Sabres are dealing him to a team looking to make a run than with the Sabres... Because if the Sabres are dealing him they're probably out of the chase anyway.

    C) The doom and gloom is not universally shared and some national publications list Buffalo in the more improved and fringe playoff range.

The Sabres have about $7.39 million in cap space, but a chunk of that will have to go to RFA goalie Levi and RFA blueliner Timmins. All in all, Buffalo hasn’t improved, and they’ve gotten worse in the grand scheme of things.

Because the NFL has to hype everything they do to get people juiced up. Turn it into a spectacle that fans don't want to miss. 'We'll be cutting live to Commissioner Goodell taking a dump. But first, here's Shaboozy performing his latest hit song ...'

It's become so tiresome. The Draft has gotten beyond ridiculous.

To be fair, the new Shaboozy song *is* a banger.

This organization's biggest problem is we're stuck in that hellscape where we're not bad enough to draft really high and blow up the front office, but not good enough to make the playoffs. The roster has enough talent to hover just below the playoff-level by year's end, but they are not good enough as a team to play at the level needed to get over the hump. In the macro, they're just good enough that KA can sell Terry on the never-ending "process" and bounce from year-to-year without significantly improving the roster to a level that they can finally get over the hump. Just kicking the can down the road every summer. He's hellbent on doing it with "his guys" when his guys have shown for 3-4 years that they are not good enough.

I had a twinkle of hope in early March when they were spiraling that maybe the implosion would be enough for Terry to recognize that seismic changes are needed in the organizational structure to move the team forward, but as has been their M.O., they start playing well when it's too damn late to matter. So, KA probably sells him on this late surge being them "figuring it out" and we just run it back yet again with only a minor addition or two.

A competent GM would recognize that we still have fatal flaws on this roster that cannot be fixed in house and would attack those gaps relentlessly in the offseason. A competent owner, a serious hockey organization, would recognize that the current GMs plan is not going to work and would move on. But again, this is not a serious hockey organization.

Hear me out: what if we trade out a bunch of guys of picks and upcoming prospects, be terrible next year and get a great pick, something, and then the cup will be paraded in front of City Hall? It just might work.

    Yeah - "not great, Bob."

Has anyone posted here that Tweet about how weirdly anemic the demand is for tickets to the upcoming Leafs game?

If Canadians stay away because of America's federal policy of antagonism, the Sabres are gonna have a serious problem. (As will the Bills, for that matter.)

"If Canadians stay away"? They already are. We're booking vacation stuff out west and there are surprising amounts of discounts and stuff available. My parents mentioned that Florida has been quieter than normal this winter. They listen to Fox, so it's "because the Canadian dollar is down" and not "the seething hatred for the US government and border hassles".

Not sure, but 2 things to note. He only has about 10 minutes with Samuelsson.  One or two extra shot attempt either way can vary the numbers greatly.

To me the bigger issue is, while it is a very small sample size and we need more time, his overall numbers are pretty much what most guys on this team are:  very good with Dahlin, average-to-below average with anyone else.

I think I need a larger sample size on him to take much away from the analytics.

So you're saying the team just needs more Dahlin-level players?

you think an AHL goalie and a forward prospect will bring us an elite goalie? If we add another forward prospect we could get macdavid or mackinon.

See, the Sabres have been playing 4d chess. The team is so awful, and players that get traded suddenly get better, that everyone is clamoring to trade for our mediocre prospects because it's just the team that's hindering them.

I can’t imagine that anyone living in Buffalo any length of time needs to do an internet search to decide where to get their pizza. The criteria is a bit weak.

You've been going to the same place your parents went to (or your family switched when Steve moved on and is working at the other pizza joint down the street). That's like 9/10 of the pizzas you buy. You know the number by heart, 655-4646 (and I haven't lived anywhere near WNY in 25+years).
