Here’s a fun game. Go look at the all time goal leaders list and find the first guy who never scored a goal while you were alive. It’s a long search for anyone born before the 80s.

However long that leash might be, they risk extinction by letting it go any further. I know that’s a bit too strong of a word, but I can’t think of the right one.

Now just picture a scenario where they win the cup. Would you even think about coming back or do you go out on the highest note imaginable?

Matthews is the biggest threat. But he’s looking like a major breakdown risk and won’t reach the 1400 or so games he needs.

They’re in the same exact spot as a couple of years ago with the strong finish leaving them one point short of they needed to do exactly what you’re saying now. There’s something here, but they can’t just keep rolling with the next young guy in line.

I’m about to hit the 10 year mark in my house. There are two lights that I very rarely turn on because once those bulbs go, I have no idea how I’m going to reach them.

It was a perfect storm with a poachable team. It’s a very specific scenario that won’t readily be repeated. Teams don’t want to waste time negotiating with the good chance of waking away with nothing. And players don’t want to do the same and then wind up with a different team.

I just saw the highlights. That was a beautiful assist from Cozens tonight.

If he pans out and they walk away with three legit NHL centers out of that first round, that’s one hell of a win. If we’re stuck with an annual rebuild, that’s at least a very nice building block.

People always run with this 3d/4d chess analogy, but you can still play a game even if you suck at it.

I'm not really sure why any of these guys would leave some of these powerhouse positions. Yeah, the pay's not as good, but the job security is great. Hakstol, Quinn... these guys should have never left. They could have been perennial powers and legends at their schools. Instead they're bouncing around from job to job every couple of years, dragging the family all over the country.
