  1. And Ovechkin did that right out of the gate, the second he stepped into the league. Beyond that though, it goes right back to the whole Bossy/Gretzky thing, longevity matters too. There's any number of things that could happen to derail Matthews/Laine. They've started well, but only time will tell.
  2. I'm too lazy to dig up the CBA today, but have they expanded the rules so that the original team (or anyone else who also claimed the player) still has that shot after the waivers have expired (10 games/30 days)? I bet it was a little more common with goalies.
  3. Do you have any sense for how often a player gets reclaimed off of waivers by his original team? Nothing is really coming to mind here, but those aren't exactly high profile, attention grabbing moves.
  4. For a full career, yes. I trimmed down Wayne's number to his first 10 seasons, the same number that Bossy played. Like I said, not all that scientific, but I wanted to at least somehow factor in that Gretzky played into the trap era and Bossy's back shortened his career.
  5. Sabres playing at home at 1PM. Amerks playing in Syracuse at 7PM. I'm not so sure they call up anyone to just sit in the press box.
  6. I'm very slow to adjust to this new world where 22 isn't still very young by NHL standards.
  7. I just looked at goals per game. But anyway, looking back at the numbers, Wayne did have more total goals as well. It's not the most scientific comparison, just something I glanced at quickly. And actually, looking back, I accidentally used his one year in the WHA with Edmonton as his first season. Fixing that actually increases Wayne's numbers slightly.
  8. In classic NHL-style, they're all listed as day-to-day. Rochester has a game Saturday too, so that could impact who they call up, if needed. Would the team rather have the vet (Tennyson) one the ice for the Amerks or the kid (Borgen)? I really don't know which way they'd be leaning.
  9. I'd love to see where Gretzky's number would have been if they hadn't been watered down by playing into the start of the trap era of hockey. If you take his first 10 years and compare them to Bossy's full 10 years, Wayne does come out on top (0.82 vs 0.76).
  10. He's just there to play. If the injuries don't progress before Saturday, he'll be in the lineup.
  11. I was going to enter his name in the discussion. Matthews may not even be the most prolific goal scorer from his draft year. Right now Matthews has an ever so slight edge in goals per game, but Laine has sustained it over more games played.
  12. Check out the Fighter if you ever have the chance (and the stomach for a Marky Mark "acting" performance). That's about as good as he gets. I can't imagine there are too many movies that landed both the best supporting actor and actress (and a 2nd nominee in the latter as well).
  13. I'll play the odds on this one.
  14. Not only do they need to win one right away, but they need to blow out the other team. Enough of this parade of one goal games and no goals from 3/4ths of the lines. Slaughter someone and get this thing back on the right track.
  15. You weren't.
  16. Is he up on an emergency recall? They may have to send him down at least as a paper transaction before immediately recalling him. But anyway, there's plenty of games left to play. He may regress a bit, completely changing this discussion. He wouldn't be the first young player to have that happen.
  17. And then the next movie he filmed after that was Batman Begins, so he immediately had to bulk back up to super shape. The dude's heart is going to fail on him someday and most people will not even realize how much he's put himself through over the years.
  18. It sure is nice to finally have a player that a national broadcast can't stop praising throughout the course of an entire game. I know people have always complained about how they do that, but this definitely changes things.
  19. I a thread over at TBD is correct, people are going to be awfully happy about a certain cut.
  20. Upon a very quick glance, I thought the thumbnail picture was Kim Jong Un at first. It's the haircut.
  21. You pretty much just described the my move from Boston to NC. Plenty of people make it work, but I have no idea how the do it in those overpriced, over trafficked areas.
  22. I have a neighbor who is currently training two dogs to be service dogs. It's an interesting process to watch play out. It's absolute torture for any little kids in the neighborhood. They always want to run up and pet them and she has to shoot them down quickly.
  23. I haven't read it, but it looks like filler to me. These types of things usually are. There's a place for that, but like you said, not if there is too much of it.
  24. And it's more of a question for the reporters who were polled as opposed to the Athletic. There's not going to be anything super scientific to the way they scored the results. They can only report on what they're given.
  25. It's too bad that the trivia thread never lasts long.
