  1. I'm a fan of giving guys like him that first full year in the AHL, and then being the guy who rides the shuttle back and forth when needed due to injury the following year. So yeah, he sees the majority of his time in the AHL, but gets spot duty from time to time.
  2. How old is your son? It seems like only yesterday you were telling us your adventures with the Chinese exchange student.
  3. I hadn’t heard about that. Time for some googling. But I won’t sign up for that one unless William Shatner gets to point out something on the wing.
  4. That’s why I want to know if his film making would translate to a comedy movie. I’m shoehorning him into the only role I know for him. I’d love to see more of it, but I get the feeling from his recent success that we may not see that for a long time.
  5. I hope that talent someday translates to a comedy. He's getting so much positive press lately, but horror is a genre I just can never get into. So as good as he appears to be, I'm not going to be seeing either of these movies.
  6. Yeah, there's no doubt about that one. And I'd imagine that dirty laundry would cover things completely unrelated to the collusion claim. Still, the numbers being thrown around over the last two days don't really scream "make this go away at any cost" to me. I guess that bar is just a bit lower than I'd expect it to be.
  7. <32. But anyway, I’d love to know what else is in this deal beyond a payout. Also, what makes the two of them walk away with what seems like a small payout (granted I don’t know off hand what they asked for originally).
  8. Id love to head out to any of these European league sites, but for one of their own games. I’d be curious to see their atmosphere in its full form, rooting for their hometown team. I might have to make that a bucket list item.
  9. ESPN has a report up saying that the Kaepernick grievance is paying out under $10 million to the players. It doesn't say whether each player gets that amount or if it is split between the two. That doesn't seem like the huge loss for the league that some might have expected when the deal was reached. It's a shame that we'll never get the full details on that one.
  10. Well, he kind of was...
  11. That's the damn Lucic year, the start of the playoff drought, isn't it? I met the wife that year and I still blame her for all of this. ? edit: The actual end result is actually kind of funny. He lit up the score sheet in that game in Germany. And guess where he plays now? Germany. He's hockey's David Hasselhoff.
  12. Isn't Luke Adam our overseas scoring champion? Maybe he can dust off his Ruff-induced dented helmet and lace up the skates one last time.
  13. The bar people constantly set for Dahlin is Bobby F'N Orr. Let that settle in for a second. That may as well be an impossible standard. And this isn't a limbo bar like most of our other players regularly clear with ease. We're talking about the pole vault. If he can even come close to grazing that bar, we are in for one hell of a ride.
  14. I'd trade out Ottawa for Montreal on my list. The Ottawa thing was a bit more short term, so they're probably 4th place for me. What was it, about 13 straight years where we were bounced in the first round by pretty much either Boston or Montreal?
  15. Hmmmm, I can't quite figure out why they chose these two teams...
  16. I'm a little surprised that people think the pricing falls squarely on the Pegulas. We've all met the NCAA, right? But on another note, they did put in the bid for this event, so they should have known what they were getting into.
  17. Does that $120 cover both games on day 1? I've been to frozen fours both ways, where it was one ticket for day one and also where they emptied out the arena and started the second game much later. That price is still too high, but it's slightly more understandable when you're getting 2 games in 1. There's going to be some variability from city to city, but the prices are mostly controlled by the NCAA. It's been a while since I went regularly, but from year to year, the prices were essentially the same. I never once paid their price though. It's a bit of a roll of the dice depending on which team makes it, but most years the scalpers out front were practically handing them away, which will be the case here too. Every now and then the scalpers clean up when youhave Minnesota playing in Minnesota, or Wisconsin playing in Milwaukee, but it wasn't too frequent. For every one of those, there were 5 in places like Columbus, Buffalo, or Tampa Bay.
  18. I'll revisit this one. Apparently over the last week or so there have been a bunch of phone calls going out to people who have tickets, identified as from the NCAA, checking to see if they need extras or know anyone else that wants them. They must really be hurting on this one.
  19. So basically we had a one year spike. I see that and I'm much more curious about whether or not there was something specific about that year. I'd guess that it's just as much of a coincidence as the fact that there's multiple Harvard players on that list. Hickey really doesn't enter the discussion since he signed with Buffalo as soon as possible. He officially signed his deal on July 1st, the first day allowed by the CBA. He would have had to wait until August 1st for free agency. That's not a sign of a guy who was flirting with free agency. Maybe things are different if he had remained with Arizona, but we can only deal with what actually happened. So to say that this is something that happened to Buffalo a lot is again, more than likely just a coincidence. You're tying three cases together, but only one was truly a case of a guy spurning the Sabres. Petersen is the only one. With Vesey, Tim Murray traded for a guy who was already on the record as saying he was going to free agency. Hickey signed as quickly as possible after the trade There's one positive out of this whole discussion though. It just goes to show just how rare this move really is. It's really not worth the stress that some like to induce on themselves each time a college player is drafted, "we'll lose him in 4 years when he refuses to sign". It happens just about as often as the Sabres win two games in a row.
  20. Do you know what level the teams were (not age level but talent level)? I'd imagine that the further away you get from the top level, the more rough the game are. That's a big part of why fighting has died off at the NHL level, with so much more talent out there, they stick much more to the actual hockey. The sooner the old "I went to a fight and a hockey game broke out" joke dies off, the better.
  21. You want more controversy when it comes to Babcock? I don't think he got nearly enough out of everything he had in Detroit. He lost his hall of famers and then it all started to unravel. I'd take the results they had any day, but they could have done more.
  22. Yeah, that definitely looks to be the case. There really aren't that many high end seniors in general and it looks like most of those were undrafted. GA said upthread that it's fairly common, but I really don't think it is. The names we have seen go that route really are just a small drop in the bucket compared to the full list of drafted players. That's mostly just a matter of semantics though, whether or not you'd call it common.
  23. It's funny. It took so much time for Harper and Machado to get their record contracts, but now Trout just quickly blew them out of the water.
  24. I can think of a few missed goals by beer league refs that could use a good video review.
  25. I forget the specifics of the timeline there, but was Petersen already gone before they drafted UPL?
