I've always liked the split squad format, at least at the very start of preseason. While you have everyone in camp, get in two games either back to back or even in different locations to get everyone some action. And from the finance side, you can sell a few extra tickets. That window of availability closes quickly though, once you send guys back to juniors or when AHL camps start.

They could also do something incredibly crazy and actually bring on a new defenseman or two in any trade they make.

Ottawa gets a cap hit from that buyout too. Looking back, I'm a little surprised that Toronto was able to get away with not taking back some of his salary when he was traded there. Otherwise, they'd be on the hook for cap hit as well.

I had the Lebetard show on in the background on friday and Amin Elhassan said that Toronto is going to become a basketball town because all of the hockey followers there are 50+ years old.
