That’s not how it works. He has to sign a new deal. But anyway, they’re not going to give a contract to a 5th goalie unless it’s the doomsday scenario we’ve seen the last two years. Even with only 43 contracts right now, it’s not worth it to have less flexibility for any later moves this year. The only new goalie contracts are earmarked for Levi/Portillo in the spring.

I was going to say that seeing a trio of rookies in a row there is nice. Apparently Rousek isn’t one though, but he may as well be. Houser does not have an nhl contract

Yeah, but I’d imagine other divisions have popped up from time to time. The NFC east always seems to pop up from time to time. But then again, every team in a division making the playoffs was only possible for the first time just last year, right?

He got a ton of crap a few years back from Montreal media/fans just for saying he was pulling for his brother and Vegas in their playoff season against Montreal. How dare he pull for family years before he'd even have a contract offer from the team that drafted him. I do wonder though how the two brothers wound up at mega-rival schools... even if there's a 6 year age gap.

If he's ever going to be our goalie, this needs to be the moment where he claims the job.

I know we all have similar stories around here, but I've always cringed at this one. The Bills missed the playoffs for my entire 20s. The Sabres missed for all of my 30s. I was willing to have people pay me to sink an entire franchise for my 40s, but haven't had any takers yet. I fear that the Sabres will just keep the streak going instead. Oh, and I met my wife one month after the Sabres' last playoff game. I just assume this means that the drought will never end. edit: Ahhh crap, I should have read Taro's follow up post before I made this one.
