  1. It sure didn't look like Falk didn't like playing for Lehner last night when he came like a bat outta hell to attack the VAN player for slashing Lehner. this doesn't ring with the narrative that they don't like Lehner.
  2. I don't think Lehner's comments were directed at Risto. That said, you have identified another major point to add to my Disco Bunker, which is the gross negligence of playing Risto 30+ minutes per game in multiple games, and having his season avg TOI above 27 min (the next highest is Kulikov at 22:46 avg). This is going to kill his effectiveness and certainly doesn't help him long term. Risto is 4th in league in avg ice time, behind Byfuglien, Suter and Doughty. All those guys are playing for teams that actually are in the playoffs and are not wasted on this trash fire of a team.
  3. In the last 10 years of sports, the star player has stayed 99.9% of the time and the coach/GM has been fired. Professional sports is a player first team and if you have a star player you keep them and figure out the pieces around them.
  4. Nothing ruins the kid's perfect day like an errant puck to the face. Those chicklets don't grow themselves y'kno
  5. Cool charts Randall. The takeaways I have is the following: - Gorges really kills the effectiveness of Risto, and his best partner is clearly McCabe. Tough minutes and top pairing matchups are why he is in the lower quartile. - Deslauriers is our worst forward by a country mile. Doesn't do anything in terms of offense and gets us hemmed in our zone often. Get off the team. - As much as we hate it, Jack & Sam together make for really effective offensive hockey and can tilt the ice in our favor. - Huge boost in effectiveness for the Kane & Gionta pairing, where without each other they are much lower in shot generation while still giving up a lot of shots. - Statistically Carrier is performing very well, albeit in a small sample size. Based on the chart only, the optimized pairs for Offense and Defense are: Risto-McCabe Falk-Fedun Bogo-Kulikov/Franson Gorges riding the bench Jack-Sam (w Girgensens - Better shot suppression or Foligno - more shots for) ROR-Okposo (Moulson) Kane-Gionta (leftover from above)
  6. they also had Crosby and Malkin inflating average players stats. Good players usually want to play with other good players. Just sayin.
  7. After reading through this was exactly what I was going to post. The Sabres need scoring and Kane does that, he's always had a high goal to total points ratio, meaning he is the finisher not the playmaker. Second - and more importantly - he is not a "3rd line" player, and just because DDB chooses to shuffle lines and spread out our talent to 3 lines I am of the opinion that the hierarchy of players is judged by their nightly ice time not where they are slotted. Risto is clearly our #1 defenseman since he averages 27+ minutes of ice time. In terms of forwards, here's our top 5: ROR 21:37 Eichel 19:57 Okposo 19:08 Kane 18:46 Reinhart 17:22 http://www.foxsports.com/nhl/buffalo-sabres-team-stats?season=2016&category=ICE+TIME&time=0 So from the coach's perspective Kaner is the 4th most important forward, and very heavily used on ES as the other four players listed average 3 min/gm of PP time, while kane is on the PP2 and only gets 1:42.
  8. What a comeback. I watched the first 40 minutes on mute while reading because they looked horrible. Unmuted once they scored the second and enjoyed the ride from there. It's amazing what this team can do when they just go for it and play to score with an aggressive forecheck. I still want Bylsma give but that was fun
  9. and bath salts. Don't forget bath salts. :nana:
  10. Nothing you said is wrong, IMO. Well done.
  11. You can't be the smelly kid in class if we are all equally disgusting
  12. I love the flight tracking part. The time it takes for the flight to happen gives us multiple hours to wildly speculate on something totally mundane :)
  13. The Julien firing reminds me a bit of the Ruff firing around here a few years back during our tank season. It wasn't really an indication of his poor coaching, just that he had been here so long and had a very poor team. Both are still good coaches (worked on Canada's national team staff) that just needed new scenery. Make it happen.
  14. Can we get the Disco Bunker connected with the Bogo Bunker somehow? I don't want to have to see the light in order to switch bunkers. Plus I'm sure there's folks that would like to come and go as they please to both establishments.
  15. I'm busted. :(
  16. Yesterday I was really angry at both the officiating and the lack of emotion/reaction from the coaching staff to do anything other than take it with an expressionless face. You could sense the players were very frustrated as there were more big hits and physical play last night as a direct retaliation to muckety play from the Devils. As a personal preference I can't stand the Dick Jauron style of emotionless statue coaching. I much prefer guys that can sense the emotions of their team and work to harness that energy in a positive manner. We have certainly seen emotional coaches fail and fail miserably (Rex Ryan), but i'd rather see them go down with the ship looking like they give a $hit. Claude Julien can't come soon enough
  17. Sometimes you don't know what you don't know. By that I mean can we really blame the players for making mistakes if they are not identified as mistakes and worked to correct. We see D&C and Alamo play as mistakes, but it seems more and more likely that these are things that our team is being coached to do. ...where's my Samuel L Jackson gif when I need it?
  18. :o :o :o http://www.wcvb.com/...-julien/8685431 Go get him NOW!
