Oh boy - I wouldn't make that comparison lightly. That's best ever Sabres territory.

Expansion draft and league-wide wheeling and dealing

Kane's troll game is strong. Or he's traded. Either way I'm entertained  -
You're not wrong. Cheektavegas as well.

Expansion draft and league-wide wheeling and dealing

I'll keep quoting myself as I research further. Seems Skjei is their big up and comer defenseman and is close to untradeable next to McDonagh (think McCabe), so he's not being traded for Kane. Clendening didn't get a QO and isn't on the Rangers. and I meant to list Dylan McIlrath (22yrold) rather than Brendan Smith. Basically I don't know anything about the Rangers to even speculate. -

Not bad thinking there Tondas, but we all kind of scoffed at that asking price for Hamonic. -

Expansion draft and league-wide wheeling and dealing

I mean I guess I understand getting younger from Chicago's side, as Hjalmarsson is 30, and getting a 24 yr old back, but Murphy is a low first and not really all that special IMO, and Dauphin is minimal value. The only thing going for him is two more years of contract length. but that's a stretch in making up the value. -

Neither do I. The point production isn't even close and the cap hit is $6MM for both players. The only difference is 2 years of control for Panarin v. 4 years with Saad. Is that really worth a 30pt difference/yr? -
We can if that's the direction the team wants to go, but we currently fit them in when our defense is pretty trash and I think we should allocate more of our cap to solid defense than forwards.

You mean I was actually right?!? I'm never right on these things. I always just assume i am going to be corrected by someone smarter than I am. (or someone with more free time who manically checks and re-checks this stuff while pounding mountain dew and cheesy poofs in their parents basement)

Jack Eichel's new contract; what's he worth?
Samson's Flow replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Aud Club
That type of deal certainly doesn't cripple us from fielding a competitive team. If we get that rate long term that could be the biggest steal in NHL if Eichel continues to progress on his current trajectory. -
Well of course it is speculation. If I knew what the offers were it would be much easier to weigh the value. :nana: I think we are all curious about how both JBot and Housley see our team going forward and what style/strengths they are looking for. It makes this conversation all the more difficult as there are so many unknown variables.

There are no takers for Ennis/Bogo/Gorges/Moulson. You can't just wish them off the roster. Other teams paid first round picks to Vegas to take their cap hits - do we really want to do that when we aren't contending this year and have cap space to spare in 17-18?
-
There is value in having him play the season here - I agree. I just think that value is less than the value received in a possible trade in the off-season. Less value in the short term for more value in the long term. I really like Kane as a player too, I just think what we can get for him makes us a better team than his 1 year impact.
-
I'm all for winning, I really am. I'd love to see the Sabres do well this year and make the playoffs. My speculation is that this is the highest value for Kane that we are going to get, as waiting to the deadline or keeping him all year introduces injury and/or production regression that will lower the value for 2018 and beyond. If i'm the GM, I am targeting being truly competitive (i.e. Cup) in the next few years, before we have to pay our young players their big money contracts.

I do recall the Vesey thing, I just can't remember for the life of me when the FA date was. I guessed it was coming up at the end of the month.

The comparison earlier in the thread was less Miller and more Matt Hackett. I've decided not to lose sleep over losing a Matt Hackett type prospect. It sucks, but we will survive. Doesn't he become a free agent in like a week? (7/1) That's not a very long negotiation window.
-
Again, from my perspective there is no contract that Kane would agree to sign where I would be happy with the terms long term. It's just going to cost too much from a team building perspective that I don't think we need more than one high cap wingers. because they don't like the answer the rest of us are giving.
-
The return better be really good and cost controlled if we are trading Samson. We never put him in his natural position his entire tenure as a Sabre.

Well that's a bummer man.
