  1. I agree with pretty much everything you mention here. My point of contention is more that Conacher, at 24 years old, given his production in Tampa, has a much higher ceiling than that of established quantities named above. And the opportunity cost of acquiring him is losing any current roster player to the AHL. That can be the Ellis/Scott/Sultzers of the world. Just a year ago Conacher had 24 points in 35 games. Our worst roster player (whoever you think it is) doesn't have that kind of scoring potential.
  2. Understood, but it wouldn't be a decision between Conacher and D'Agostini. It's Conacher or Matt Ellis/John Scott
  3. I think if the 2015 draft didn't have a future superstar player at the top in McDavid, then I would have expected Murray to follow a more typical rebuild and not a total teardown. IMO the 2015 draft is resulting in a much more aggressive tank strategy than normal.
  4. But for a team who is currently starting a second line with D'agostini and has had Leino as a first liner, Conacher is an obvious scoring upgrade from those guys. Other point of looking at waivers is to see the precursers of a trade. OTT is clearing up two players from active roster.
  5. Even if we land Toffoli from LA, his ceiling is probably right around a 25 goal scorer. Which is Moulson right now. And he's not even assured to hit his ceiling. Wheels meet spin.
  6. Like the guy in the Rumors/BS thread that assumes we can trade for the 2015 #1 overall? yeah we are the only team who think McDavid will be good. :bag:
  7. Get in our time machine to 2006 and claim Scott Gomez! I know you have learned and changed, just gave me a chuckle from back in the day. Carry on.
  8. All three rumored to be traded/on the block for Wednesday. :flirt:
  9. Saw that coming. I hate to flame on the new guys, but basically all of the trade proposals are off. Anyone else see the irony in LGR being the first responder to crazy trade proposals after his baptism from his early posts?
  10. I think the casual Sabres fan has very little idea who Risto/Zadarov/Armia are, let alone some of the other prospects that the board is excited about in McCabe, Compher etc. I would caution against thinking this board is a representative sample of Sabres fans in general.
  11. Given the reports that it was between Broduer and Halak, that would indicate to me that they were looking for a one year rental type to support Harding's medical issues. IMO they are not looking at a long term solution at the deadline.
  12. Especially since Coyle has already played 50 games in the NHL for the Wild and is still only 22. He's probably going to cost way more than just Halak. But then again we do have tons of picks to trade back to the Wild (including their own).
  13. No rumors, but if you are looking at prospects rather than picks, i'd be looking at a few of their LW prospects in Jason Zucker and Eric Haula. We have minimal LW prospect depth and both are decent prospects. Looking at http://www.hockeysfuture.com/teams/minnesota_wild/
  14. And the masses rejoice! :w00t: ...sorta.
  15. Agreed. Which is why I am glad that GMTM is taking a hard stance on Moulson for Toffoli. There aren't really any other top prospects worth my perceived value for Moulson. That and LA needs scoring badly. The rumors of Philly talking big move for Kesler are heating up too. Intriguing...
  16. Little shocking that the Sabres wouldn't even approach Moulson on his interest in an extension. Further reinforces that he was always considered a trade chip to flip to add to the Vanek trade return rather than a future piece of the rebuild.
  17. Now there's a guy with nothing but potential. The Wild would be crazy not to!
  18. The Lindros case was a good one to point out, and gives a little more comfort to assuage the fears of sabres fans that McDavid would be snatched up by expansion Seattle in 2015. Precedent says the worst team gets the franchise player ahead of an expansion franchise.
  19. That would be incredibly unfortunate bordering on unfair. All 30 teams have been looking at the 2015 draft as the draft where the next Crosby can be obtained. I think there would be some major controversy and angry owners if the NHL expanded for this draft. Plus, doesn't it usually take a few years of rumblings before any expansion even takes place? I have heard very little. That and the talent level of the NHL is already pretty diluted, the competition would get way worse with another 60ish NHL jobs available.
  20. Oh the life of a fringe NHL goaltender. 3 or 4 cities in one year has to be tough. (I know they make more $ than any of us...)
  21. Well Konopka is expected to be a healthy scratch tonight.
  22. Didn't Dubnyk just get traded earlier this year? He's already on waivers?
  23. ...yet I think that Moulson is the next domino to go. That covers all of the obvious UFA rental trades and frees us GMTM to consider the higher impact long term trade offers of Ehrhoff/Myers/etc.
  24. Yep. Vaugely ironic but not actually in the literal sense. Does trading Ehrhoff to the team we happen to be playing add to 'Hockey Heaven'. When the Sabres trade you, its to the team we are playing that night in order to ease the travel/transition time.
  25. More like ironic. In the Alanis Morissette sort of way.
