McNabb, Two 2nds for Hudson Fasching & Nicolas Deslauriers

http://www.hockeysfuture.com/prospects/hudson-fasching/ Detailed writeup on Hudson Fasching -
That and with all these high level prospects being NHL ready in the next few years, there will be a huge logjam. Better to trade one of those dmen before it is obvious that we have to move one. Just listing them off I see Ehrhoff, Myers, Risto, Zadorov, Pysyk as top 6 next year. Not to mention McCabe. And all the current NHL dmen we have as well.

My point is IMO it is worth keeping an expiring UFA if you are heading to the playoffs and/or pushing to make it and that player's services for the next 20-30 games is worth the possibility of losing them to UFA. At this point in the season the Sabres are obviously not making the playoffs and the last 20 games are basically meaningless. Instead of 20 meaningless games of Moulson you can cash that in for some sort of future asset (draft picks or otherwise) that can be used past the 13'/14' season. Those picks/prospects could be the difference in making a different trade down the line.

I think anyone who is excited about him points to the 12'-13' season in Tampa Bay where he scored 24 points in 35 games. That was with Lecalvier as his center though so a certain bit of inflation is noted. struggling a bit more in Ottawa this year with 20pts in 60 games.

http://espn.go.com/nhl/player/_/id/2590363/cory-conacher He is listed at 5'8" 180, so while not Gerbe size he's certainly one of the smaller players in the league. Currently on the last year of his entry level contract and is a RFA at the end of this year.

So is it a disaster if we finally trade Stafford but don't make deals on some of the other obvious guys? This lack of activity has me worried. I think at a minimum you have to trade Moulson, Tallinder and Halak before todays deadline. They are all walking at the end of the year and need to be cashed in.

Gotta fill 6+ hours with something. Just wait until they have the first trade of the day and its a fringe NHL'er for a 5th rounder. They will analyze the ###### out of that one.

So the Trade Deadline thread with 54 pages and 2,000+ replies gets closed for this pathetic 4 page/120 post thread?! Makes sense to me :pirate:

Same difference. :clapping: And boom goes the dynamite...

@TSNRyanRishaug: Oilers in a tight spot tonite. Only have one goalie in town now, not sure if Fasth can get here. Does that mean that EDM has hit rock bottom as well if they sign a street FA for tonight? -

Reading a lot of chatter that all the ANA moves are to make room for Vanek. Hope that happens today to give a boost to the Moulson value leading up to tomorrow. Kevin Allen @ByKevinAllen · 1m With Bryzgalov going to Minnesota and Fasth going to Edmonton, the goalie market may be closed. -

That is true. You are only allowed 3 and we used them. Salary trades now have to be actual players. -

Talk on the Hockeys Future board is that the Sabres were interested in Kuemper in the Pominville trade last year but got Hackett instead. Just perusing since that board was linked above... -

Can the Sabres try that? Maybe we can improve our goals per game average. -

Too bad the Wild can't just play all their goalies. Goaltending is not a position you can fill by quantity over quality... -

Just in time for his UFA year to hit in 2015 an sign with a contender for more $. Unfortunately, the only way to get players for a rebuild is to lock up their rights for multiple years. -

The Minnesota and Ottawa scenarios is why it is a risky proposition to acquire players in a trade whose sole purpose is to be flipped for more assets. If things fall though (as they appear to have in both MIN and OTT) then you are stuck with players that you didn't really covet and aren't part of the rebuild plans. There were some big talk about how the flipped players were going to get even more return than the potential return of just trading Miller/Ott. Now we're stuck or selling at a discount. -

That's a bad domino to fall to Minnesota for Buffalo. The Wild were the primary landing spot for Halak. Not sure who else needs a goalie. -

They have a better chance of being lottery worthy in 2015 than say, LA (another rumored trading destination) -

Seeing as 95% of your posts are either direct facts or links to articles/media reports, you are about as close as this board gets to 'always right' :worthy: -
It may be a lingo issue, where the media guys are talking about taking on a salary dump type player (i.e. Heatley) from the Wild. Not an actual "retain salary" but similar effect. that's the only defense I got to their buffoonery

Which translates to Halak for a 2015 1st plus $7,500,000 of Pegula's bucks for the remainder of the season. Amazing that the once great Heatley is now a negative value in a trade. I wouldn't be too upset with this return, especially given the Wild have the potential to be lottery worthy next season. -

I think that breakdown right there is what GMTM has identified as the way to win the cup. Great post. Looks like 3-4 years after drafting top ~5 you have a chance to peak and win the cup. Not to mention selecting the right top 5 player. -
Sens waive Conacher & Corvo.....interesting
