What if we start the talks with the two things Edmonton desperately needs: Defense and Goaltending. Building a package around Myers and Enroth/Neuvirth would probably interest them. Not many teams can offer a top pairing D and goaltending. I think we're one of the few good fits for a trade.

At the time the trade for Seguin was viewed as pretty high risk because of these concerns. It has obviously worked out pretty well for Dallas, but one example of a similar situation doesn't guarantee that a trade for Hall would work out equally well. That being said, eventually the number of prospects we have should be turned into better/elite level prospects via trade. Hall would be one of those elite level players since he has the pedigree (former #1, Canada WJC top scorer and 3rd in tournament, etc.) that could translate into a true 1st line LW.

Tight four way race between RJ, Robert, Gare and Pat LaLa. The tension mounts...

I see someone is looking forward to the Bandits season...

One more complaint. It took me two hours to get from Kenmore to Downtown Buffalo this morning. What the heck happened out there? It was the same snowfall as any other Buffalo storm but everyone must have read the "How to drive below the Mason-Dixon line" pamphlets this morning. Yeesh.

Finally it's open. Where to start... One of my best friends is going through some marriage troubles after only a year or so in, to the point where he isn't willing/able to stay at his house. So I've had an impromptu roomate for the last few days. It's really a ###### situation as me and my lady are really good friends with both him and his wife and it has put us in the middle of a very stressful situation. Doesn't help that he's so depressed that all he wants to do is drink at our house or go out and do activities around the town to try to get his mind of things. Both parties are at fault for this situation and I won't get into the gory details but it has really thrown a wrench into my weekly routine. That and my car is in the shop today for an unexpected repair. I have a strong feeling it is pretty major (i.e. transmission) as the repairman is having a hard time finding anything wrong even though it drives like hot garbage. Just started this past week. I don't have the time or money for this right now...

Plus RJ's LaLaLaLaFontaine calls probably add a certain je ne sais quoi...

Like Zhitnik with a less accurate shot... :bag:

I remember out resident lady mod referring to him as "catnasty". I would guess that was praise.

All this talk about fancy Old Fashoneds is killing me. It's my drink of choice but now I feel like I have been missing out not using "real" cherries and better bitters. Might have to be a self christmas present this year...

I just find it amazing how reactive this fan base is based on recency bias and small samples for our prospects. Grigorenko was a bust because of a struggles early on, Reinhart didn't score during his tryout, etc. Heck, there were times when Brayden McNabb was hailed as our next great dman because he threw some big hits in a few spot starts. It's important to keep in mind that most of these players are teenagers/early 20's. Players change and develop as they grow. The pedigree of player and multiple seasons of stats should be considered before passing quick judgement.

Concerning Hodgson - while he has certainly not been effective this year, I think that he is the type of player both in style and skill that requires a talented lineup around him to be most effective. Playing him without natural finishers and talented forwards will (and has) render him painfully ineffective. Put him on the 06 sabres lineup and he puts up 50-60 points easy. Right now the team is historically bad. You won't get anything of value for him given the length of the deal. Keep in mind he is still only 24 yrs old. There's room to grow/improve
-
So you mean he isn't terrible because he wasn't an instant star as a teenager in 9 games in the NHL on a historically bad team? [backs away from ledge]

ubkev - Gil Perreault vote? really? Is this some sort of bizarro strategy?

Here's an article from Buffalo Rising confirming. Gives the layout of the space if you're interested. Looks like it is going on the North side of the building facing main street. http://buffalorising.com/2014/10/pizza-plant-signs-one-canalside-lease/ and here's the Hofbrauhaus info from May 2014. Looks like it is scheduled for opening in 2015 "within walking distance of Canalside". http://buffalorising.com/2014/05/hofbrauhaus-buffalo/

The choices are getting tougher and tougher. I voted my votes just because they were too early for my generation and aren't part of as many highlight videos that I have seen. I fear my favorites (the Peca/Hasek/Pat LaLa) won't make it too much further.

Define 'quick'

Eberle has the talent pedigree (nominated to Team Canada multiple times, high 1st round pick) that Ennis does not. I think for this reason posters here are considering Eberle to have a higher ceiling than Ennis, even at similar ages and career stages. My point is more that eventually GMTM has to identify a way to convert our plethora of "second line level" talent into some "first line level" talent. We aren't going to draft a whole line of first liners and win this decade.

Agreed. Niedermayer was intimidating in that he could change the game offensively at any time and was so slick in the d-zone. He was 6-1 200lbs though which isn't small. Ristolainen -> Niedermayer Zadorov -> Pronger Similar playing styles IMO.
-
Where's the Zero F### Given thread when you need it? :worthy:
-
Just in playing style/size wise. The Ducks defense had two large intimidating dmen back there who ate huge minutes. Obviously at 19 and 20 yrs old Risto/Zad is nowhere near that level but they could have the size/intimidation factor of the Pronger/Niedermeyer.
-
? odd comparison. Are you saying that in this case Ennis is Shane Doan?
-
I'm thinking more along the lines of the old ducks teams with Pronger and Neidermeyer. But same difference.
-
Eberle would instantly become our most talented forward and would lead this team in points. Obtaining him would instantly cement one of those mystery "top 6" spots in the sabres future cup winning roster. I'm still not convinced that Ennis is a lock to fill one of those spots. Eberle is smaller but he isn't Ennis small. Eventually we have to do some 2 for 1 type trades using our prospect pool to get higher ceiling players. You cant play all 20 something of our prospects at once.

They were never going to make it to the end, but they were clearly better than the first eliminations. Picking only three makes it so my 4th and 5th place finishers get no votes until they are 1 and 2. It is funny though.
