Well it did happen, only it was last year with Miller/Vanek/Pommers. The only thing left is scraps like Stewart, Stafford and maybe one of our goalies. Not exactly top bait material there.

In an unprecedented move, the Sabres trade all 14 regulation wins to the Toronto Maple Leafs for 14 regulation losses. Sources in Toronto say fans are still uncertain that team will make the playoffs despite undefeated record following trade. Edited for reality...

Keeping Pysyk up over those two also makes us a considerably better team. It's roster manipulation. He's still young enough to not make it obvious red-flag move. I think this recent illness streak is opening our eyes that some of the AHL prospects are better than our NHL roster chaff.

Will d4rk hit 20k posts by the end of the year?

60 posts in the next 36 hours is going to be tough to do. Looks like the under may win it... -
It's not that we know something the other teams don't, its more that I don't think a playoff team is going to trade for him to be their starter because it's too much of an unknown, and trading him to be a backup isn't going to net us any return what his value to the Sabres is. It would be purely to tank this season and improve our chances at finishing DFL, since our goaltending would be much worse.

I just don't think you get anything of value for Enroth at this point in his career. He hasn't demonstrated to be a consistent starter from the perspective of the other 29 teams. It would be a total tank motivated move, and creates a hole in the future where you have to address starting goaltending at some point.

I worry just as much that if they bring in a guy like Polian, that he will bring along his son, and that we will be clamoring for the "success" of Whaley a few years down the line. Polian Jr. is an even worse talent evaluator and Polian Sr. is already nearly 80. Sometimes it is better to stick with the guy you know (mistakes and all) than roll the dice on the unknown. Whaley has hit on a high rate of picks in the last few drafts. His blunders have admittedly been the 1st round picks, but the average NFL draft only gives you 2 or so starters. He has surpassed that the last few years he's been in charge.

Who exactly are they going to trade? All of the key pieces of this team are under 24 and still in entry level contracts or locked up long term. Trade Enroth would have a big negative impact in the standings, but then who is the goalie for the next few years when the team is supposedly going to compete in the playoffs. We've had this discussion before, there's very little to trade that would have the impact to move us further into last. This isn't last year where we had UFA rentals waiting to be dumped.

This is as important as the "Stafford needs to go" thread. Franchise defining stuff here.

Well obviously last -> McEichel is the ideal result. Unfortunately, our team appears to be a bit too lucky/opportunistic to secure last place. Hence the discussion of other options in the 3-5 pick range. Obviously I'd like to be dating a supermodel, but you don't see me whining on my man Uggs every Sunday...

It's still 14 grand. Give or take. Let me know if my math is off... ;)

Those Rascal scooters aren't as nimble as they used to be.

Yeah. McDavid was about winning the lottery. McDavid/Eichel was about finishing last. Eichel is the supermodel's hot friend for when you don't win the lottery.

On the bright side, at least this sort of forces the Bills front office to address the QB position next year. I always had a bad feeling that if they didn't get the FA guy they targeted that the Bills might say they tried and turn to Orton as the starter again next year. Forces a move.

This pleases Nikita. Also, Tyler Myers would be the worst criminal possible. Not sure a guy his size could ever not be spotted.

After watching some of the WJC, I would be very pleased with Larkin coming back as the primary piece in a Myers to Detroit deal. He looks very similar to Girgensons and was all over the ice in the Germany game.

Like a participation trophy in little league.

I just want to say that the wraparound goal Eichel scored last night was pretty incredible to watch. The reach and hands to be able to score while his body was still directly behind the net was impressive. Also, I was pleased to see Fasching's game for the USA was quite a bit of front of the net/power forward style play. He's a powerful player with enough skill to play on the 2nd PP for a strong world juniors team

Well that was fishy... i'm calling shananigans. Hasek was winning from the gate once it was down to the final two, and Gil's only lead was when he "won" 24-23. After multiple days of lobbying from voters to change votes and three mystery lurker votes. but whatever, it's just an internet poll in a losing season. I know who the real winner was.

The Moulson point total should be 39, not 29...

I really don't know what to think in terms of the hiring/firing of the coaches and GM next year. On the one hand, Marrone has demonstrated ultra-conservatism and lack of clock management/situational awareness at the end of games, which has hurt us. But, in looking at most successful teams, continuity in the coaching staff is pretty important to building sucess. If you fire the coach, there's almost always a step back by having to learn new systems and the lack of familiarity with concepts. Unless you promote Schwartz to head coach and have Pepper Johnson take over psuedo D-coordinator jobs and hire a top end OC for next year. And FFS fix the o line. The guard play this year has been the worst I have ever seen. Dallas is magically a top running team because they focused a lot of talent on the line. That's how to win.

I certainly hope you aren't referring to our resident poster with the same screen name.

Rico made it top 3, no lamenting here. I'm amazed at the amount of RJ elimination backlash. Consider that if RJ had no great players (like the ones left) there wouldn't be any of the 'signature' calls. There's much less significance in a meaningless Stafford goal at the end of a 4-1 loss than the Hasek saves, LaFontaine goals or French Connection magic.

Don't worry, the Sabres forgot there was a game that day too...

Good distinction.
