  1. Big Wilf Paiement fan huh? Actually, there have only been 3 players to wear #99 http://www.hockey-reference.com/friv/numbers.cgi?number=99
  2. Whatever man. Just a harmless comment. College professors always told me not to use/trust wikipedia as a source, and this was a perfect example of what they were talking about.
  3. Oh I know. I was just musing for my own curiosity. heimdall's comment started it. As I said before, my money is on #15.
  4. Which is the lowest Sabre number available? 2 & 7 are retired. 3 Pysyk, 4 Bogo, 5 Ruhwedl, 6 Weber, 8 McC, 9 Kane Is it 10? Would a forward be allowed to wear #1?
  5. Citing from the internet was way harder than from a legitimate book/article source. The web address alone can go one for miles. :wallbash:
  6. I know how to read JJ. No need for the snark. I am 99% sure that your link says "en.wikipedia.org" I'll adjust my glasses next time.
  7. Come on shrader. Don't you know that wikipedia is a much better source than whatever "CBA" you keep mentioning? Didn't you learn anything in college? :nana:
  8. Seeing as the Bills don't even have cheerleaders anymore, it seems Buffalo and cheerleaders are just not meant to be.
  9. I don't know about special rules, but the Byfuglien play is not in the normal course of play, since the goal had been scored and the player was no longer expecting contact. I would much rather see suspensions and fines for this than a bad check/hit to the head during gameplay. That wasn't hockey, it's a bar fight cheap shot.
  10. No doubt. But this is the same conversation I was having in the thread on this topic a few years back. It wan't just a tank season thing. It was more apparent this year though, for obvious reasons.
  11. That would be quite the story to tell the grandkids. Death by flying manhole cover...
  12. None taken. Just relaying my experience from this year. I was given tickets for center ice 200's for the Predators weekend game late in the season. When the Sabres scored, there were maybe 5 people in my section who stood up with me. The rest were busy eating their snacks or playing on their phones. Maybe it was an isolated incident due to the a. terrible season and b. sitting in the 200's. Didn't even think of the cheers for the PK zone clear. That has definitely lost its volume this year.
  13. Getting stares and vitrol for trying to start a chant will certainly dampen any fans enthusiasm. That and there is a growing trend of not even standing up when the Sabres score a goal. Seriously, FFS...
  14. Especially since those contests with 10 year olds usually involve 10-15 seconds of silence after she asks a question cause the kid is scared to answer in front of twenty thousand people. Nothing gets me pumped up like extended periods of dead silence.
  15. Maybe I phrased it wrong, my point was more that the whole 10 minutes leading up to puck drop does very little for me to engage the crowd and get them invested in the game thats about to happen. Having the fans be involved before the game starts should result in a higher likelihood that they remain involved during the game.
  16. I would agree that setting the tone before the game even started would go a long way towards changing the arena atmosphere. Doug does a great job at singing the anthem, but it does nothing to pump up the crowd and is a very "formal" rendition. If the fans are encouraged to be loud and cheer prior to the puck drop, they would be far more inclined to continue throughout the game. The arena experience needs to be far more engaging and immersive and less of a "performance". Buffalo fans have the capacity to do it, since the Bills games are certainly a loud and engaged fan base.
  17. I remember this being a topic of conversation a few years back (the year right after the Easter loss to the Flyers), and there is definitely some things that can be done to improve the arena atmosphere. For one, more organic noise through the organ rather than blasting pop music. It is tough for fans to be heard through the speaker music and I see a lot of fans just give up. My other observation is that Sabres fans are very knowledgeable, which can be a gift and a curse during play when a lot of fans are watching so intently and analyzing play that they don't have time for cheering. There's total focus stares at the play on the ice. Sabres fans don't go to the games to get belligerent, they go to watch hockey.
  18. Not only that, but MacTavish is so enamored with the guys he has drafted that he isn't willing to use their value to fix the defense and get some heavier players in the top 6. Between the six of McDavid, Hall, RNH, Eberle, Yakupov and Drasantl he should pick three or four and use the others to get similar quality players at positions of need. It's the Darcy effect.
  19. MacTavish is the same as Darcy then. His obsession with collecting the same type of player will never allow EDM to build a cohesive team. They need some size in their top 6 and a total rebuild of their defense core. Holding on to all 5 of McDavid, Hall, RNH, Eberle and Yakupov will continue them on the path to a unsuccessful team. This isn't NHL '15.
  20. The whole time I was reading 716 and qwk's posts I was thinking of this meme. I'm just waiting for people to start stirring the pot for no gaddamn reason.
  21. Last 2 pages were gold guys. I really should visit during the evenings more often. :flirt:
  22. I mean there are plenty of RW's out there that I would rather have too. Tyler Seguin would be great as a RW. I picked Eberle because he has a decent chance of being available since Edmonton won the lottery and are expected to change up their roster to get some defense help. Kane-Eichel-Eberle is a #1 line on a cup team IMO.
  23. But we have more Russians so suck it! :nana:
  24. He's a top 5 pick overall. Murray has made a blockbuster trade with Winnipeg that ended up with the Sabres gaining two top 5 overall picks in Kane and Bogosian. I don't think Murray targets anything other than elite talent sets. Established 60 point + guys are hard to find and rarely come available.
  25. I still don't really understand the O'Reilly chatter. He is a left handed shot and would not solve our weakness at RW. I think GMTM has identified a few RW targets and is awaiting word on the prices. My guess is the trade is for Eberle, with the primary piece being Zadorov. That gives a top 6 of Kane-Eichel-Eberle; Moulson-Reinhart-Ennis with Grigo and Zemgus as a strong C/LW combo on the 3rd line. Totally agreed on the bold. They are the cornerstone pieces.
