Aren't NHL coaching contracts guaranteed? i.e. Ted Nolan is getting paid his 3 year deal. If so, I don't think that Babcock would give a .

Stream of consciousness!!! That was bothering me for the last half hour. Carry on.

We need a hot librarians thread like we need a tallest midget thread.

Solid 'Of Mice and Men' reference. My Complaint - Message board syntax. :nana:

Shrader nailed my issue. The syntax issues coupled with the false statements are making it difficult for me to get through the whole post. Eman actually has pretty think skin and behind some of the mis-steps in facts are good interesting opinions. I don't mind correcting the errors since he hasn't had the benefit of reading here for months on end and knowing the intricate details of Jack Eichel's draft status. I've got no problem with new opinions, it keeps things interesting and moves discussion along. But the free-writing single paragraphs make it hard for me to read your posts.

Maybe the Leafs are going all in this year..no more Leafs tank

The problem with Toronto not tearing everything down is that they are stuck with some huge/unflexible contracts with Kessel and Phaneuf. They don't have the flexibility to make any meaningful moves without getting rid of most of the key pieces on that team. They can't add much of value without blowing it up. And yet there are still folks around here that wanted to let Nolan coach out his remaining two years. He's not viewed favorably around the NHL. -
I definitely think that there is a well thought out master plan in place. And the Sabres will follow that. As a matter of fact, IMO, the Babcock pursuit was more about his availability and identifying an elite upgrade available than following their plan. Now that he's in Toronto, I think they go back to the original plan.

Eichel is under team control for at least 3 years and it is incredibly difficult and/or rare for an athlete drafted from the NCAA to get out of playing for that team. He would be giving up multiple years and prolonging his UFA status by doing so. Highly unlikely/not happening. Lindback is not under contract and is a free agent. So we don't have any control of where he goes. Unless you're saying he's coming back on a new deal, in which case I would argue against such a scenario. Not sure what you mean/are getting at with the "feeding off cap money from Canadian teams"? The NHL makes a majority of their money off of the TV deals, and they get nothing from the Canadian markets as far as ratings. This is why the NHL and Bettman continues to push for expanded regionality in the US market. They are looking at non-traditional markets as a way to boost TV viewership and $. ADD: It seems Liger beat me to nearly everyone of my points. #LigerTagTeam

I've said it before, but I don't mind repeating. There has never been a coach in the NHL who kept his job after finishing dead last two seasons in a row. Never. Ever. There was no need to let Nolan coach any longer - he proved that he didn't have the coaching acumen to be the guy when the real bullets fly this season and beyond. Say all you want that his roster was terrible (it was) and that he was set up to fail. Even if he was set up, doesn't change the fact that his team failed and was historically bad two seasons in a row. It's a results based business.

Or the enter key. Sheesh.

Obviously they are 7,11,14,18,39. (Full disclosure - I had to look up how many/what range the Powerball drawing is)

I just wanted to throw my support here for Richardson. He's the guy I think lands the job now that we're out on Babcock. Good mix of youth experience and gravitas

Looking pretty good so far. Come on Richardson!

Ironically, watching a few minutes the player I noticed most was Tim Connolly. He was dominating play in the offensive zone. Must be the pre-concussion version

Where in the hell were all these goals all series/playoffs?

Buffalo winter classic game is on NHL Network right now if you are looking for something to flip between the playoff game. A little Sabres nostalgia (when we were good)

Outside of Toronto and Mississauga? No.

I try not to speak in absolutes for this exact reason. Nolan having little control over the daily roster would certainly be a cause for conflict. But saying the Nolan had zero input is painting GMTM as insensitive and all-powerful, which I don't think is a fair characterization. IMO it was more due to competing objectives than anything else.

Don't worry, I fell asleep midway through the second, woke up at 12:30 to see there was overtime, watched about 10 minutes, then fell asleep again. :bag:

Exactly. Hence why this thread and others have gone off the rocker lately. Without any new news to keep the story moving, we get speculation and anarchy.

That was my issue with the scene and the reliance on this as a plot element. Martin's writing never used rape or sexual violence to move the plot along. It was used to show the terrible setting that war and conflict creates, but in an ancillary way. The show writers for HBO chose to adapt Martin's work to add these rape scenes (as listed above) to add edginess/shock value. Just like they showed all of the Theon torture scenes for no reason. All of these choices seem to be so the show can say "look at us, we're edgy and pushing the envelope". It was and continues to be unnecessary and takes away from what is a well written original story.
