  1. Matt Ellis is like a cockroach that never dies. At least he will never see the NHL again. If he stays in Rochester and provides a veteran presence there that works for me.
  2. I apologize that I didn't consider the impact various industries would have on the discussion. Yes I agree that this is industry and work type dependent. My initial statement was focused on my world in the financial sector, where data mining tools and software programs allow for much more efficient and accurate analysis. However, my initial thought experiment could extend to multiple industries, as I would suggest that in manufacturing and industrial settings, the introduction of certain technologies have improved the productivity and efficiency of the worker. The issue is that due to this efficiency, the expected output level has risen rather than the labor time factor. In other words, the owners are looking for more output in the same amount of time rather than maintaining the same historical output level in less labor time. My question (and I would love input from those closer to the specific industries) is do we really need this additional output level or is it more of a greed/profit motivation?
  3. Agreed. 40+ hour work weeks were necessary back when most processes were highly manual and labor intensive. With the increased automation and technological advancement, there is minimal need for a 40 hour work week except that it is an ingrained tradition.
  4. Americans already take a smaller amount of vacation and leave time compared to our European counterparts, now he wants us to work longer hours as well? :wallbash:
  5. We bought ours on Monday by walking down to the FNC Guest Services area (by the box office on the left) and buying them with the ticket agent there. It was very convenient if you are attending one of the other practice sessions. Not sure about night of though...
  6. You should be in the clear then. My dad's property had the same thing with the local high school's land and because it was past the year threshold (and done by the previous owner) he was in the clear. Then again the school wasn't suing or pursuing legal action, just acknowledged the fence was in the wrong spot and moved on.
  7. Agreed. But by the sounds of it Oduya wants to go back to the Hawks and will give them as much leeway as possible to make it happen.
  8. My father in-law just bought us a Weber Spirit as a wedding gift, and I have no complaints thus far through a few weeks of use. I'm definitely interested in the discussion and why you think the Genesis is far superior weave. So my father in-law is a cheap bastard then? :nana:
  9. Ahh so the NBA version of this 'negotiation period' is much different than the NHL version, in that mostly everyone has found a dance partner by the time the music stops. I see where the trouble is for Mr. Cuban's poop chute is now. thanks
  10. This is still a thread? It's been three days since any news on NHL free agency here. The tweet seems to confirm my suspicions that GMTM was looking at Oduya to fill in the top-4 defense hole. Once he realized Oduya wasn't likely to come here, we started getting a lot of the "pursuing a trade" comments.
  11. I don't know anything about the story other than the 1 minute summary by Hoss above. But the free agency period just opened right? I don't understand how that could ruin the Mav's plans on day one. It sucks yes, but missing out on your FA target is not the end of the world IMO. Unless i'm missing something. I would love to hear rebuttals on this.
  12. Thanks. That was fun/interesting. Don't really know what Cuban could be upset about since there was no deal signed and he reconsidered after support from his teammates. Then again I always side with players during FA as that is there one chance to dictate the terms of their careers.
  13. Especially on a short week after the NE game. That is going to be a tougher game than expected. I assume that should read "can stop the run", since their passing game was non-existent last year.
  14. Care to fill us in for the curious-but-dont-want-to-read-an-NBA-article types?
  15. I frequent Toronto quite often for work and Jays games, and most of the time I park at the hotel and never move my car until I am ready to leave. Walking the city is much better for me than paying out the a$$ for every stop I make. The parking and the advertising of $500k for postage stamp size condos overlooking the Gardner are the two things that get me every time when I'm visiting up north.
  16. Forgot that you were in Toronto. Buffalo is a different world, its the best local secret that street parking is free after 5pm (i.e. when everyone goes downtown for bars/entertainment). I would recommend street parking by Coca-Cola Field as it is a straight walk up Washington to get to FNC.
  17. Serving our country was a much more important concept back in the WWI/WWII days when we needed manpower to win wars and protect our country. With the US Government now spending more than any other country in defense spending, the playing field is no longer level. Our "wars" now have less to do with protecting our people/country and more to do with policing the world. I say "wars" in quotes because our military engagements are generally incredibly lobsided in terms of casualties. Its playing chess where every piece we have is a queen and the other side only has pawns.
  18. TSW is discussing the supplemental draft which happens at 1pm this afternoon. The big prize there is Clemson OT Isaiah Battle, and speculation is it could cost anywhere from a 4th to a 6th. He is generally discussed as a first round talent with issues, but looking at the Bills current roster, do we have room/need another OT with Glenn/Henderson/Kujo?
  19. This thread has no chance. Who wants to talk about a guy who played 20 years ago? :nana:
  20. Plus its a nice summer afternoon. Park on the street somewhere for free a few blocks away closer to the downtown core and enjoy the walk down. It's a much tougher walk when it's snowing and below freezing mid-season.
  21. There has been in past years, but with the paid admission this year and over 7k attending already, that ramp is going to be a madhouse.
  22. I know I am late to the party on this one, but thanks for this Liger. I have now successfully wasted a full hour at work reading amazon reviews about hell-diarrhea.
  23. Was that a Nazi joke?
  24. So says the scouting report. I am aware. We were mentioning among the guys I was sitting with that it is a much different feel/attitude than when we watched the Grigorenko development camp. A few years back we were searching for greatness that (arguably) wasn't there, this year it was pretty evident and you didn't have to look too hard.
  25. I left at 2. A guy has to work some of the day y'kno? Maybe Hoss can help us out?
