  1. Is Moulson really more expensive than Leino was? Leino was the "second best" FA "center" available the year of the Richards saga. I recall him signing for a pretty nice contract, there's no way that was lower than $5M/yr. Maybe my recollection is piss poor though.
  2. That's like unfriending them in real life. But without the negative stigma as they'll never know. (unless of course you just deleted all the local pizza places phone #'s from your phone :nana:)
  3. I certainly hope not. From most reports the asking price is a 2nd rounder in 2016. Taking a 3rd rounder two years out is akin to receiving a 5th rounder this year. Exactly.
  4. Warms you up on a cold day!
  5. What area of Buffalo are you in? (northtowns/southtowns) I can give you some places and contact info if you like. From there you can offer to join a team or something.
  6. But there's no trades. Just LGR perving out on Hoss' poor mother.
  7. ... we have some of those! and it's the Kings Sabres West!
  8. There are tons of leagues in the Buffalo area. Are you able to get together 5 other guys that are of similar skill to yourself? If so I can refer you to plenty of leagues based on your location. Were you looking for indoor court or outdoor beach? If you can't find other people willing to make the commitment to a league, there are pick up games at the YMCA's and random school gyms that you can try to get your feet wet. Feel free to PM if you want more detail.
  9. As an add to my point... The way to replicate the nature of the 3 on 3 without actually limiting the team to 3 skaters is to weaken the defense. In the 3 on 3, the goalie can have standard goalie equipment because they need all the help they can get since the scoring opportunities are prime. In 5 on 5 play, the defensive skaters should limit these prime scoring opportunities. On the off chance the offense makes a play or is positioned in a prime scoring area, I want this to result in a goal at least half the time, rather than the current 5-10% rate for scoring chances. The team that wins in scoring chances should win the game. But a square-to-the-shooter butterfly goalie saves the puck most of the time just be being there in the butterfly. When Hasek was playing, a butterfly goalie could be scored on high by going down too early, but now most shots just end up hitting the goalie like a wall was there. No reaction, no extra movement, just butterfly and rebound control. I'm asking to make it a skill position again. It's currently leaning more towards fat guy in the net IMO.
  10. As a supporting point to JJ, if you look at this year's All Star 3 v 3 tournament exhibition, I thought there were plenty of excitement and defense in those games. In fact, the most exciting plays for me were when Bergeron and O'Reilly types made amazing hustling backchecks to eliminate scoring opportunities. The reason they were so exciting? Because each rush the audience felt that there was a legitimate chance of scoring a goal. How many times a game in a normal NHL game do you feel like there is a legitimate chance of your team scoring? Half of the goals are complete surprises that deflect of six guys on their way to the net. It is rare that you see a goalie beat cleanly on a shot, even from the slot within 15 feet. If the NHL goalie can see the shot, they are saving it. That's why I want to change the pad sizes, so skilled players can score clean goals on shots, and that every time the Sabres have the puck in the opponent's zone I feel like there is a legitimate chance of scoring without a triple deflection act of god. Make the goalies smaller, and let the skill players show off the talent they have.
  11. rollin' with the homies...
  12. Don't get me wrong, it is mostly the volleyball leagues twice a week, but when I demoed the whole back half of my house and redid the kitchen and dining room, I definitely felt much stronger than pre-remodel. Not saying it works for everyone, just that I know I can't get excited or motivated enough to do the traditional gym workout.
  13. A combination of these two is the best way to fix the scoring problem. In the modern NHL, a goalie most of the time doesn't actually make a reflex move to make the save, but rather can just go into the butterfly and stay square to the shooter. That's because the butterfly move takes up 90% of the available shooting space currently - why even bother with any other move? Hasek made the majority of his saves by making a 'save' move, and before that in the mask-less era every goalie was kicking and lunging with the glove/blocker to make saves. This is what we need to get back to - think college/outdoor lacrosse goalie vs. NLL indoor lacrosse goalie (Bandits) who look like sumo wrestlers.
  14. I'll give this game the old college try, but there's no guarantee I'm making it past the first period. Doesn't help that my wife will be asleep by 9pm at the latest tonight.
  15. I have never been able to get into the typical gym routine of going to do exercises, just not my cup of tea at all. I find it much more effective to participate in various sports leagues (volleyball mostly) throughout the year, as well as the hard physical labor that is remodeling your whole house. These implied exercises work for me now, but I fear what will happen if I suddenly start getting heavier after 30 hits.
  16. so how is any of the last 3+ pages have anything to do with "Around the NHL?" /threadpolice
  17. Were you in the 300 corners on the shoot once side? If so that was me! The second period was really rough in terms of crowd noise and I have no idea why - we were up three after a great first period and it was silent. Not even a little gameplay chatter. I started a Let's Go Buffalo chant in the mid/late second that got going well but even that took me chanting by myself for three or four rounds before anyone joined in. That said, when the fans felt slighted by the calls in the third the place was loud and animated. I had more fun yesterday that at any of the previous 5 games I've been to, mostly because of fan participation and noise. That pk to close out the game was awesome
  18. Some more input: I was recently presented with a similar sounding situation, in that I felt I was underpaid for the role, but I loved the folks I worked with and was comfortable in my existing role. An opportunity opened up in another department for a higher salary and responsibility, but my perception of the role was that is was much worse in terms of hours/employee happiness. I took the interview and expressed interest in order to try and get as much information as possible. Long story short is I decided to go for it and take the new position, and it turns out the new role is way better against my pre-conceived notions of the position. Much better culture and flexibility at the new location and with the new team, and the increase in pay is a nice bonus. Based on my experience it is worth it to believe in yourself and go for it. Obviously you need to take into account all factors, but it usually ends up being that you make your own situation as good/bad as you perceive it.
  19. After last night's come from behind victory, and watching pretty good hockey there in the 3rd period, I am pretty excited to bring that to a game against Boston. Man screw those chowdah heads. Tonight ROR and Reinhart get it going on the score sheet.
  20. No worries - I know where she's coming home at the end of the day. all these fake complaints and I forgot to mention my real complaint: Started a new role this week at the same company I've been at for the last 3 years. Rather than being able to hit the ground running day 1, they decided to revoke all my access and set me up with a new username and ID. So this entire week I have been on the phone with numerous folks just trying to get back to being a functional employee. Monday was 6 hours of staring at the wall waiting for my new computer and phone to be delivered, because my old ones were perfectly good but set up with my old credentials. 4 days later and I am still basically useless and not able to do anything that I used to. Next week if I'm lucky I might get monitors so I can see what the f I am doing. GAH.
  21. You obviously didn't go to the PT rehab place where my wife works. You'd most likely have to be over 60 to get in, but there's at least one babe in there  Complaint: On the off chance True Blue did go to that PT place, well f### me.
  22. What kind of suites did you get? Presidential? Honeymoon? Executive? :nana: Compliant: nitpicky on the internet that jump on you for a simple typo. So the guest list of 250+ for my wedding was not the way to go? Complaint: As much as my wedding was awesome and kicked ass and everyone loved it, I probably would have been fine with my closest friends and a couple bottles of nice bourbon. At least I wasn't the one stressing out organizing the logistics for that monster event.
  23. Good contribution MJD. It seems the dinosaurs of the game were still just as powerful back then as they are now. I am in favor for any changes that allows for the high skilled players to more effectively showcase their talent. The problem is that there are a lot of conflicting ideas (including a whole SS thread here) as to what is the most effective way to implement that change. I'd much rather see talents like P Kane, Stamkos, Seguin etc. weaving down the ice stickhandling through people than a bunch of muckers spending 30 seconds with their faces pinned against the boards battling for the puck.
  24. Today is my last day at my current role at my employer. Starting Monday I will be moving into a new (promotion) role with added responsibilities etc. Because I am moving locations, today is effectively a "farewell tour" day for me. Heading to a offsite farewell lunch at noon today at 716, and then there is a happy hour scheduled to start at 3pm at Pan Am Grill in the Hotel Lafayette. Having what amounts to a half-day of work on your last day sounds pretty good to me.
