  1. If you don't ride your bicycle home from the bar you can probably just miss the anthem. 😉
  2. It's possible, but the Sabres would definitely have had to have been the matinee. The ice would not be playable in the evening after being covered earlier that day. Maybe a concert could've followed, but doubt the Braves would've. (And now we've gotten PA to waste his entire day researching your question in hopes of proving yours truly wrong. Pretty sure that's a win-win for everybody. 😉 ) Remember many a Sabres game where they were pulling out the mats to cover the ice to be ready for an event the next day before the fans had even left the building. And there were double headers of the Blizzard & Bandits, but that's not nearly the same level of effort.
  3. Interesting. Really don't like that move because Girgensons & Okposo's primary purpose is shutting down the other team's top line and Skinner is, to put it kindly, not good in his own end. Agree that 1 of Skinner's 2 best skills when he's on his game is cleaning up garbage around the other net & that more than a few pucks get there for those 2. Hoping this is one of those "it's so crazy, it just might work" moves, but not overly hopeful that it does.
  4. No data on the trifecta. Almost positive the Braves & Sabres never did a same day double header. It was the Sabres getting priority on choosing home dates that caused Snyder to decide to sell off the players & eventually the team.
  5. Yeah, it does seem like the Sabres are trying to develop a "they're the best 4th line in hockey, just like the Clutterbuck line on the Aisle" vibe. Of course, that pretty much makes the R2 Rou2 line one of the worst 3rd lines in hockey & the Cozens line one of the worst 1st lines in hockey. But it does help sell the "hardest working team in hockey" motif. So, there is that.
  6. Well, he's no longer a rookie, but except for a few handful of really special players they all take a slight step back as sophomores as they're expected to do more than the 1 or 2 things that got them to the show. Getting Mittelstadt back will help him a bunch. He can either drop to a very sheltered C role or a less sheltered W role where the defensive responsibilities are reduced & he won't HAVE to drive his line but might. Cozens has flashed enough to expect he'll be fine. But this season could be very frustrating as he figures it out all w/out anyone "blocking" him into an appropriate role for a 20-ish 2nd year player.
  7. The SOB BETTER pan out because he should've been local boy David Farrance.
  8. Tony Esposito? 😕 And IMHO the hip surgery has been the demarcation point for him. He seemed to have great potential prior to that. But since, he plays like he's only 5'9" (or whatever height Levi is) as he gies up about 3" of space at the top of the net that NHL shooters will find every time. Apparently AHL shooters are also finding holes. Hoping it's mental with him now, which theoretically should be fixable, but having the same issues so far after the surgeries is troubling & really don't consider him a true prospect at this point.
  9. Should the shifting of the game flow we've seen in the past 3 games continue, we'll likely see some adjustments (beyond Eakin coming back sometime on the road trip & Mittelstadt hopefully being back soon after that). If they get back to the play of the 1st 4 games, expect things will stay as they are. You don't fix what isn't broken.
  10. That one is close. But "Magic Power" can take you from a horrible mood to a manic great one in less that 5 minutes. It wins. 😉
  11. The Ducks are cursed. They LOST to Robin LEHNER in a friggin' shoot out. They should have a bag skate for that.
  12. Good thing he did. 4-3 w/ just over 4 left. Oullet w/ the answer back.
  13. Fitzgerald getting the buffer goal back w/ just under 5 to go.
  14. Way back when the Braves were playing the Jays in the WS, there was a clip of avowed atheist Jane Fonda in a praying pose I one of the games. The next Coaches Corner had Grapes asking nobody in particular just who she was praying to. That's still a favorite Coaches Corner memory for this kid.
  15. One of the greatest workout songs is "All the Way." All the Way But "Magic Power" is their best song. Magic Power
  16. Anderson is good. Pretty sure the gripe was that there's a real good chance he'll Pominville on us & then we're left with riding Tokarski (who forced his way onto this roster against at minimum the GM's expectation), or having him split w/ Dell who has been bad at the NHL level for a while or 1 of the 2 ECHLers. But will be very (plaesantly) surprised if he can keep it up all season. Especially if he has to keep performing the gymnastics he's needed to do the past 2 games. And Tokarski is angling to get Bales a raise. Good for him (& us) so far. Maybe, against the odds, he's this decade's Thomas. Would be nice to have finally gotten some "puck luck" here, but it is still a small sample size. And would like nothing more than to see Methuselah & Toker stay at this level. It would be an awesome story.
  17. It's working, but no idea who got the Amerks goal. Dell's looked sharp with limited pressure. Amerks up 1-0 late in the 1st. Getting outshot slightly 6-5.
  18. To the bolded, thank you. 🍺
  19. You're actually comparing putting a player in the middle of a 3 segment logo, which is also done by at least MLB & pretty sure the NHLPA too, the shape of the segments being completely different with using the EXACT SAME leaf with capitalized block lettering climbing the logo at the same angle? Personally, wouldn't use that as a comparison. A more apt one might be Team USA wearing Bills themed sweaters at the outdoor WJC game. Which was also a money grab with a really cool kit that was approved by the trademark holder. And, most all (if not all) teams used the lacing at the neck opening of their sweaters back when the Sabres came into existence and started playing in 1970. Not sure how the Sabres stole anything from the Rags? With all due respect, you seem to be trying too hard here. Whether they are doing the right thing & giving Team Canada a cut of the proceeds or not and it would seem to be a safe bet that they did get approval from Team Canada to do so, they are blatantly trying to make money off the good will Canadians and others have for Team Canada & that '87 championship team in particular. You don't see it as cynically as some of the rest of us do. Which is a completely legit take. Truly do appreciate that as the owner of this board you allow people to take positions that don't necessarily align with yours. (Discussion boards are pretty dull if all people do is agree.) Personally don't put much faith in media conglomerates doing anything but pursue the mighty $. (Even though it's the Canadian one Rogers is after in this instance. It's still currency.) Guess this past couple of weeks have been in a cynical space. Life does that to one sometimes. And agree, this is much ado about nothing.
  20. The 3rd Duck goal went in off of Cozens. He'd come on for R2 Rou2 who changed on the fly. The line had taken at least 1 shift earlier in the period. Not sure about ice time after that. They definitely played in the 3rd.
  21. Cool. Hopefully my free Amerks TV subscription will work. Didn't sign up for it until the game UPL got shelled was starting & it hadn't registered in time to watch.
  22. Very possible. But that's not the Summit Series sweater. It's the 80's version of Team Canada. The original "dream line" of Perreault centering Gretzky & Lafleur also wore a very similar sweater to the '87 version. The Summit Series had the weird maple leaf popping out of the bottom of the sweater almost like a shark swimming just below the surface. The '80's versions were waaaaay sharper.
  23. Yes, they're trying to capitalize on Team Canada's good will. 😉
  24. To a degree it is splitting hairs, but again almost positive there are years where 4 teams have hit the mythical "DeLuca 0.500" and yet miss the playoffs. (Posted the data here somewhere, but the search function is not overly helpful and don't feel like going through 20+ years of standings again to verify that). If reaching that milestone can still leave a 20% chance of missing out and in almost every season at least 1 team reaching it misses, then IMHO it isn't the "almost always" sure thing that it gets mythologized towards. And 0.600 is chosen as the cutoff because though some teams get into the playoffs below it, That's the demarcation point that pretty much does guarantee it and even teams that are really close (such as the '19 Habs) don't necessarily get in even though they were a full 6 games over the DeLuca 0.500. If you can have nearly 15% of a season's worth of wins over the line and still miss out, what's the point? And if 20% of the team's reaching the threshold can miss out, again what's the point? My 2 cents. Sorry for beating this one to death. 🍺
  25. Change the colors to red & white & "Toronto" to "Canada" and that is the '87 Team Canada logo. They even use the same leaves on the shoulders. The piping is different, but that's it. Truly "original" and not a rip off of a different entity's intellectual property.
