  1. Not exactly "news" but more accurately "opinion." And have big doubts about that opinion playing out accurately. Had Regier not promised suffering while giving us Rolston w/out even looking at better options, he very well might have survived the tank. Adams seems to be taking that rebuild approach w/out saying painfully stupid things nor installing a coach who is absolutely out of his element (though saying he's not bringing in quality vets so as to not "block" the kids isn't exactly Mensa level & Granato could very well see his season go much like his much hated predecessor's 1st year went especially if they can't get away from the injury bug) so if they've bought in on the 3-ish year rebuild, they can't really go and change directions 5 months into said 3 year rebuild without looking very bad.
  2. Have to figure after 4 L's in a row something will get changed up. Wolanin getting his 1st action makes sense. Dell getting his 1st NHL action this year facing one of the greatest goal scorers of all time does not.
  3. Dwayne Johnson may now own the league & is likely the CEO setting the direction, but in most businesses, the President actually runs it. And their new president is a shameless self promoter who only cares about the sizzle.
  4. Had other things going on during the game but didn't notice him taking shifts at W. He definitely had several shifts at C.
  5. Talk about a match made in heaven. League known for shameless self-promotion w/ little actual steak to go w/ the sizzle will be run by a shameless self-promoter who only cares about the sizzle.
  6. Mike Weber got the Sabres Jack Eichel which got them Tuch, Krebs, & picks. And you say he didn't get us anywhere. Sheesh.
  7. If Eakin doesn't shake off the rust quickly would like to see that Girgensons - Thompson - Okposo line sooner than later. Hopefully he shakes off the cobwebs because that doesn't leave much for Asplund to work with. Maybe Ruotsalainen bumps up a line & Eakin goes down to his slot. They really need Mittelstadt back.
  8. There was talk here about Mittelstadt possibly coming back soon. But the initial word out was 6-8 weeks. Haven't heard anything about his recovery since they left for the WC road trip.
  9. Both Mittelstadt's and Jokiharju's injuries were being talked about as 6-8 week injuries when they occurred. The Sabres won't be putting anyone, but possibly Boychuk's ghost, on BF-LTIR because it doesn't gain them anything. They're miles from reaching the salary cap & should a guy have a miraculously quick recovery they'd have to hold him out until he's missed the games threshold or been out at least 30 days.
  10. It'd be a hard no towards trading for him. Not sure that bringing him in as a FA is that great an idea either, but at least the timing of that should be coinciding w/ when they might actually be good enough to be in the playoff discussion. It still seems that move would be analogous to bringing in Terrell Owens which was an all marketing & 0 football move.
  11. Agree. But, to play devil's advocate, pretty sure neither of those guys were playing w/ 2 other 19 yo top 10 draft selections nor an additional 7 (?) NHL 1st rounders. When every line has a stud, it becomes a bit easier to rack up assists.
  12. Really doubt any of the young guys end up traded at/before this trade deadline. And, would prefer Bryson to a 2nd rounder. The entirety of this team can't be waiting to get drafted IMHO.
  13. If they HAD to pitch a stinker in this 3 game "gimme" stretch, am glad it was against the Jags rather than in division. The J-E-S-T game is now must win. Have to believe they'll wake up but missing Brown again would be very bad.
  14. Good on him for wanting to get that play right and actually making an effort to do so. Also, liked seeing him work a modified clock drill. That is a great drill to work on the footwork required to defend against rushes.
  15. IF he makes it, will be referring to him as Milo.
  16. With the exception of goaltending & C's ready to play TODAY, Adams has been doing a reasonable job of at a minimum attempting to, and at best, actually addressing team needs. Hoping he learned from Botterill's mistake of wasting the cap space freed up when Berglund quit. Edit: Though his "not blocking" the kids remains a bizarre attitude as it isn't blocking them to slot them into roles they are actually capable of rather than push them into situations they aren't ready for yet.
  17. Will be interesting to see which young goalie bumps down to Cincy when Anderson gets healthy. If Houser can do anything at all, UPL better have his bags packed.
  18. While the outcome definitely stunk, it was still fun to be at for the most part. In the 2nd & 1st 13 or so minutes of the 3rd they did a much better job of taking away space from the Wings than they were doing on the road trip. They also were doing a better job of having somebody in front of the net but aren't where they were on that front prior to the road trip. Darn shame Cozens' deflection early in the 2nd didn't go in. Catching a break like that might finally get him to stop gripping the stick so tight. That they were playing a very bad Detroit team & couldn't hold onto the lead late is frustrating. R2 Rou2 continued that really good play around the other team's net. Really want to see him in Asplund's role on the top PP unit. He won't be great at the screens, but neither is Asplund, but expect he'll be OK at that. But his hand - eye coordination is fantastic & he'll deflect a lot of pucks in & he'll get to a lot of trash other guys aren't quick enough to get. Missed the 1st goal of the night as the beer line was very slow. They're still having issues w/ their scanners & if the building ever fills back up again the concession lines will be brutal. That 2nd Wings goal highlighted the danger with trying that high pressure coverage, the Wings did a lot of crossing up high & eventually Okposo lost his man which set up the tic-tac-toe passing as Sabres got out of position trying to cover for the breakdown. Nothing really to say about that 3rd Detroit goal other than, wow, was Dahlin ever on his heels. If he's going to stay in the lineup, and he will, they have to let him play with Hagg preferably or Pysyk. He needs to have somebody he trusts to cover should he step up & miss the play. He has to have confidence he can step into the skater & win the battle. He doesn't have that at all now. Tokarski played well & deserved a better fate. Looking forward to attending the Eulers game to watch the magician. Been a while since seeing him in person. But that game is going to be ugggggly.
  19. Nah. They'll play well tomorrow night. Being on home ice & getting the matchups will help. Hope they come back w/ Tokarski. Anderson seemed a bit off in the last game especially on the 2 Hertl goals; can't let him run out of gas.
  20. How much does that # change when goals scored w/ the goalie pulled (both for & against) are removed? That adjustment likely significantly alters that #.
  21. Personally, expect he goes to W for 2-3 games when Mittelstadt comes back (presuming the other 3 guys currently playing C stay healthy), and if he has some confidence back stays there for a while & if not, he gets to room w/ his old teammate somewhere over near the Dinosaur BBQ.
  22. Would like to see him w/ Hagg for a few games. He's the closest thing that they have to a defensive D-man. Guess the fairy dust Granato used to make the improbable pairing of Butcher & Dahlin work finally wore off. Too bad. They need some sort of unlikely pairing / grouping besides Thompson to C to pan out.
  23. If something doesn't change soon, it very well could. But personally would be surprised if he's sent down before Mittelstadt comes back & also before he gets another crack at wing.
  24. There needs to be a real GM before there is a real coach. Maybe Adams & Granato are those. Jury remains out. Have to hope they are because this walk in the desert reaches Bills levels of longevity if they aren't.
  25. You & the Vegas GM both. Amazing the effect a slow start can have on one's resolve.
