French Connection #2 Line of All-Time- NHL Network
Taro T replied to gilbert11's topic in The Aud Club
Maybe because that line wasn't together all that long? Anderson was the 3rd guy on that line earlier in their heyday. -
Wasn't he the coach that threw a beach chair at a teenager trespassing on his lawn at his winter home? IIRC, he's got a very good reputation for getting strong results from an OL. Good pickup. They seem to be building a very strong staff on the O-side of the ball. Wouldn't mind some upgrades on the other side as well. [Edit: apparently he punched the kid for doing something to the beach chair. The above scenario seems funnier, he should've thrown the beach chair at him. 😉 ]

Are they advertising that there are Bandits games to people that AREN'T already STHers to their other teams?

Well, you were the one that wanted to see them salt the earth. You just might get your wish. 😉

What a great movie.

Kris Baker: possible Sabre college FA signings
Taro T replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Aud Club
This was a throwaway year, and it didn't have to be, because the goaltending on the whole was trash and didn't need to be. Could they have been competitive (an NHL 0.500) with reasonable GTing? Turns out the answer likely was 'yes.' Unless Levi is a unicorn, heading into next year w/ only him and UPL will be another one in a long line. -
Considering nobody is going to throw a check in the ASG & no contact 5v5 was beyond ridiculously bad & the ASG really is for the sponsors to be able to schmooze w/ the stars, actually find the 3v3 format a good choice for the ASG. It's NOT real hockey. Taking away the pretense that it IS real hockey is a good thing. And the 3v3 IS entertaining in this single instance (YMMV). But, the skills competition used to be fun. They just keep making it dumber every year & flat out didn't watch any of it other than a couple of tweeted clips. Not sure how to fix it, but it currently is awful.

Agree 100%. That said, after the past 2 off-seasons could very easily see Adams running w/ Levi & UPL next year. Can't win the lottery if you don't hold a ticket. Really don't have a good feel for whether next year is another throwaway year, but keep coming back to cynically believing there's a strong likelihood it is - those 3 plums at the top of the draft pool just seem like they could be too dang enticing to get these kids the quality of goaltending they've earned & deserve for next year. Hoping that's just being too darn cynical or that Levi really is a unicorn, because otherwise, next year'll be another long one. -
Has there been much (any?) advertising of the Bandits games? With last year's skipped season & Canadian/ US border restrictions, can believe a lot of people just don't have the Bandits on their radar. Which is a shame as they are playing very well right now.
-
Bandits went into the 4th up 10-4. Gave up the next 4 goals. Hung on to win 11-8. Kin-ig-hit Hawks goalie Hartley stood on his head. EASILY could've been 16-8 for the good guys. Fun game. Couple of fights (well really physical scrums more accurately). Bandits play the Rock next next Saturday in Hamilton at 5PM. 6-0 baby!

The Russian women really can't compete w/ them. W/ 6:30 left in the 1st, the US is outshooting them 15 - 0. The game is NOT that close, though the score was still only 1-0. (Oh, and apparently there's also really thin royal blue piping on the unis as well. Seriously bad unis.)
-
When he was healthy, something we haven't really seen since ~ December '19, he did that in Buffalo. No reason to expect anything less on a better team.
-
Watching the USA Women destroy the Russian Women. And presuming the US Men will be wearing the same unis, but want to know who designed the unis? They look like friggin' practice duds. ALL navy blue (sweaters, pants, socks)w/ white helmets, white #'s & a couple of very thin red piping swaths on the sleeves, socks, & around the #'s which are pretty much unobservable except in close ups. IMHO, embarrassingly bad unis. Especially for a country that tends to have really sharp unis.

FYI, For those w/ ESPN+, the Kin-ig-hit Hawks travel to Banditland at 7:30PM tonight. This is the 2nd of 3 meetings between the 2 and the only one in the MMArena. Bandits are the lone undefeated team in the NLL. Let's Go Bandits!!!!!!!

Updated Sabres Prospect Pool 2021 and beyond
Taro T replied to GASabresIUFAN's topic in The Aud Club
Didn't realize the Amerks practice at Bill Gray's (or whatever they're calling the former ESL 4 rink complex these days). Probably should've known that. -
Shocked! Absolutely shocked at that. Well, not so shocked. 😉 PS, technically it's ABC. 😉
-
No, that was convicted domestic abuser & alleged child abuser Tyreek Hill. Why wouldn't he be celebrated at the NHL ASG?
-
Realizing it goes against the grain, but really want them to draft a big run stuffing DT that takes up 2 blockers on most plays. That will make Oliver even more of a beast than he was last year and help keep Rousseau from getting doubled too. A true MLB that could let Edmunds slide outside where he belongs & a C / G would also be nice gets. But expecting they go CB in the 1st most likely. Kind of nice that they don't have huge, glaring, gaping holes; but they could definitely get better in places. And yeah, a 2nd TE would be nice, but expect that's just ahead of WR, LS, PK, & #1 QB on the need list.
-
Interesting. Is this due to COVID issues, concerns about the possible Russian- Ukranian War, or other?
-
The problem in '94 was injuries. They were so thin at C due to injuries that they wouldn't let Derek Plante go to the Olympics. That was also Hasek's NHL coming out party. The '95 team wasn't terrible but it was seriously overly expensive for the results it garnered & EVERYONE with any value except LaFontaine & Hasek was traded away for prospects & picks which led to a really talent deficient team the next year which was the origin of the "hardest working team in hockey" moniker. That was the only truly goonish Sabres team ever & people loved them even though they lost A LOT.

Well, it's a bit more convoluted, but one (or more) of those guys COULD be loaned to another franchise's AHL squad. Kolzig was loaned to the Amerks nearly a lifetime ago & Binnington was loaned elsewhere for a more current example. That said, though bringing in Mann would be a good thing, don't see it happening. And would, when all are healthy, have Anderson & UPL in Buffalo, Tokarski on the taxi squad. Portillo & Levi in Ra-cha-cha (finding a way to at least give Levi & maybe Portillo too a game or 2 in Buffalo after the trade deadline has passed & the Sabres can have every single player in the system in Buffalo because they aren't hitting the cap at pro-rated $750k increments. Dell sits in Ra-cha-cha in case either Levi or Portillo falter. And Houser ends up odd man out in Cincy w/ Robson. With Levi & Portillo coming in, don't see Dell nor Houser back. (Houser deserves an AHL gig & there won't be room.) Tokarski probably goes away too, but that presumes another NHL quality guy is around. IF Adams plan is to run UPL & Levi, Tokarski splits time w/ Portillo. -
Holy ####. Mike Tirico just gave China some serious crap. (Not nearly as much as they deserve, but really did not see even this coming.) ####ing awesome.
