Flames trade Tkachuk to Panthers for monster haul headlined by Huberdeau
Taro T replied to RVJ's topic in The Aud Club
Clearly Travailling thought the Florida deal was the best he could get. So, again, if he asks for more (& getting a deal signed/ agreed to w/ both Huberduberdeau & Weegar is asking for & getting more) & Florida says no, take the deal we've offered or walk, then what? -

And if Florida tells Travailling (sp?) to go pound salt, what then? -

And there's the rub. If they're out of the hunt, it's a no brainer. But this is a team that won its division & a round of the playoffs. They have to expect making the playoffs & if they can't sign 1 or both before the trade deadline find themselves in a spot where they might have to say that year's playoff run, a prospect, & a 1st in 2 years plus whatever they can get before the draft for negotiating rights is all 1 year of Tkachuck was worth. Because it'll be a hard sell to the fans that a couple more high picks & a couple more prospects were worth throwing away this season's run. -

No idea why Weegar is presumed to be bolting at the end of the year. Huberduberdeau (face it, that sounds way cooler than plain old Huberdeau ๐ ) said immediately upon getting traded that he would not sign an extension w/ Calgary. He's since walked it back sort of. He's "open" to staying but it isn't his decision. Mongo only pawn in game of life. It's up to his agent & the GM. (What a tool.) -
Perhaps the best clip.

Really doubt that. Most of the rest of the world didn't even know the tournament was happening prior to the '00's and even less of it cared. Ratings will be down in Canada as it's coming right after black fly season & right before mosquito season but it'll still draw more eyeballs than it did back in the '80's.

One guy's opinion: Lessons learned from the Sabres rebuild
Taro T replied to \GoBillsInDallas/'s topic in The Aud Club
Not within the "club," within PSE and Harborfront specifically. He was an assistant coach & then a development coach w/ the Sabres relatively briefly & then spent a lot of time w/ the Hockey Academy and Harborfront itself. But he wasn't on the Sabres org chart for a long time prior to being made the head of the Sabres hockey department. -
Knew the Sabres had done a song/video back in that era. Had totally forgotten it was a "just say no" sort of song and that John Valby and written it & performed most of it. John's more typical songs were much better. They were actually intentionally funny. (For those that don't know him, his nickname was Dr. Dirty.)

One guy's opinion: Lessons learned from the Sabres rebuild

Yep. And for most of their history, they were actually top 3. -
Not predicting the Sabres in the playoffs yet either. But 3.5% of their staff said JOISEY will make the playoffs. Just hard to believe that if people can see Joisey making the leap, that not a single person there sees the Sabres and their play since Tuch showed up in the lineup & the lineup got healthy and says that could continue enough to get in.

How often as a freshman did you get flown across the country to be the guest of honor at a gala dinner with 20 or so of your peers and then get turned loose on the night? The moment for a "rite of passage" ISN'T at a gala dinner where your tournament team was reassembled for the night. These guys on that evening were getting told how great they are and how they can do no wrong on a national stage. With the egos & libidos people can have at that age, why would you NOT provide some form of supervision in that environment if it was your event? EVERYBODY (literally, everybody) involved directly & indirectly in the incident would've been better off for it. Again, pro teams & college teams have curfews & other forms of supervision. Why didn't Hockey Canada have them in place as well? And if they did, wtf didn't they actually enforce them? You seem to be equating this to the team being out on a normal Tuesday night in their normal settings. Neither alleged incident happened in that sort of a setting. They both were at major events on a national stage. You never did anything dumb on a trip with your buddies that you wouldn't have done back at home? Honestly? Had there been somebody there paying attention to what you were doing, might you not have done that? Well, somebody paying attention could've kept both of these alleged incidents from happening.

Where do the Sabres Rank in terms of Prospect Pools post draft?
Taro T replied to matter2003's topic in The Aud Club
Wheeler's goalie list was out today and the Sabres are well represented. Levi is 5. Portillo is 9. And UPL got an honorable mention. So, Sabres prospects claim 6 of his 60 slots and 4 more were close. So, he seems to think the Sabres prospect pool is fairly deep. (It is.) -

He's open to staying, but it isn't his decision. That's up to his agent & Calgary's GM. Translation. He really stepped in it in the heat of the moment & is doing damage control. And if Calgary will seriously overpay he's "open" to staying. Sure, he might stay, but wouldn't put any money on it personally. -
Made what seemed to be a clear distinction between everyday activities of these players and being flown out to a special event for the benefit of the organization (Hockey Canada) sponsoring the event & reaping the profits from the event. So, the Rapelisberger nightclub incident really isn't apples to apples. Also, specifically said the comments about providing some supervision were completely separate from the actions alleged. There was specifically no excusing of the players' alleged behaviors; if they did commit a crime, expect there will be consequences. (But knew somebody would claim the post was excusing the behavior; surprised it was you.) Had the people at Hockey Canada running these events provided supervision then these young men that literally millions of Canadians look up to wouldn't have had the opportunity to do these things that they are alleged to have done. When does the need for a degree of supervision when you've arranged to send these teenaged men out of hometowns/ homebases end? Would expect that's something that would be determined on a case by case basis, (though as pointed out, professional sports teams see a need for an enforced curfew for their players when they travel out of town; if players in their mid-20's - early 30's need supervision, perhaps assuming teens & 20 year olds need it too would be a good thing) but sending a bunch of teenagers (& 20 year olds) out of town to celebrate them & tell them they're all that would seem to still fall under the umbrella of "yes we need to provide supervision." And again, that Hockey Canada didn't provide nearly enough supervision nor apparently a strong enough framework to deter these activities seems clear in hindsight. Yes, & last time we checked freshmen in college are underclassmen. And the 18 year olds on the team were high school aged. What is your point? Would you expect RPI to have some sort of supervision / curfews for the players should they fly out to LA for the Great Western Shootout? If the answer to that is yes, why shouldn't Hockey Canada provide some form of supervision in extremely analogous situations? These men who were barely beyond being kids at the time these events were alleged to have occurred are being accused of gang raping women. You still going to stick with the response that the people running Hockey Canada and the events these players were at "partied just as hard ... and saw no harm from it, maybe even viewed it as a rite of passage." Gang rape a "rite of passage?" (And PS, the line you quoted should've had the word "not" before "pay attention." Fortunately people seem to have understood the meaning even with the grammatical error. Thank you.)

Again, pretty sure he held the Amerks playoff run against Quinn. -
Were any of the top 10 goals legit or were they all plays that the officials &/or the system blew?
-
Considering it was played w/ a high stick & shouldn't even have counted, how is that #1? Was #2 Hull kicking the puck to his stick causing him to be in the crease ahead of the puck?
-
30+ percent of them have the Otters making it, 11% have the Wings getting in, and 3.5% of them picked friggin' Joisey. That not ONE went w/ the Sabres getting in should be blackboard material this season.

Yeah, mildly surprised at that too, but w/ 4 other Sabre prospects in the top 50 & him needing to aqueeze Robertson in to keep loaf fans from crying, not that surprised. He seems to have held Quinn's getting shutdown in the AHL playoffs against him. He mentioned that specifically in discussing his season. He's very high on Savoie. Said when all is said & done he might be the best F out of the skaters that were eligible by his criteria. Think it was just Sabre #'e that was held against Peterka. He was 1 of 3 honorable mentions. The other 2 were Kulich & รstlund. And, as said above, getting shutdown in the playoffs was held against Quinn. Looking forward to where Levi falls in tomorrow's goalie rankings. Has to be close to #1 if not #1. Only 10 goalies will be ranked. Sabres could have 2 of the 10 (though may never get the 2nd one signed). -
Apparently the rocket surgeons at the Athletic would rather have Detroit's. They at least gave the Wings a shot at the playoffs. They put the Sabres in the same boat as Filly & the Hab nots with not a single staffer swing them in the playoffs this year.

You don't have to worry about it. Nobody likes your posts. ๐

The thing that doesn't make sense, and is what Hockey Canada should be held accountable for in these situations is, how is there no adult supervision / chaperones at these things? You allegedly have 6 players involved in the 1 incident during a 2 week long tournament and allegedly 8 players involved following a gala dinner in the other. Understand that these are very YOUNG adults, so technically they can go on their own and allegedly do something this stupid, but these are short showcase events where the majority of players are far from their homes and in a party/ charged environment. How does nobody that gets paid to put these events on stop & ask the question "well, what could possibly go wrong" letting a bunch of high school/ underclassmen aged "men" go off on their own. Don't they have curfews? Curfews aren't placed only to make sure the players are ready to do their job in the morning, they're also there to keep them from doing something really ####ing stupid they probably wouldn't do on their way to lunch in the light of day. And professional sports teams have curfews for players when they're on the road, this isn't an outlandish thought. This isn't a frat or a bunch of buddies deciding to take a trip to Ottawa or Montreal for a weekend only to have a party get out of hand (which would be bad enough), these are Hockey Canada / IIHF main events w/ all of Canada & parts of the world watching. These players are going to these on Hockey Canada's dime & are in a role to be ambassadors of sorts for their country & their sport. How the #### does somebody who wasn't literally a kid less than 2 years earlier pay attention? How do the organizers just let a herd of players go off on their own at night? (Presuming that's the case, if these incidents occurred right in the hotel rooms they raise other questions.) And before the Liger or others accuse yours truly of excusing the players, am not doing that. Don't know the details of the allegations so have no comment on the acts other than if they did something illegal (and in at least 1 of the situations it seems that if they did what's alleged they did commit a crime) & the statute of limitations hasn't expired expecting they'll be punished.

Sabres have a true #1 RD. They lack a true #1 RH RD. Don't see that as a gap. It would be interesting to see another true top 4 D-man. But guessing they think between Lyubushkin & Jokiharju they have 1-5 covered well enough that Power's development won't be hampered.

Maybe he did. Nobody might've anonymously been posing as somebody to throw you off his trail. That you recognized somebody was nobody made his ruse only marginally effective. That you can no longer identify nobody as that somebody makes nobody's incognito bid a success. Unless you had nobody confused with a different somebody, in which case it was no ruse at all. Confused? You won't be after this week's episode of SOAP. ๐
