  1. As mentioned in another thread, the ECAC teams are all riding under the Ivy League TV banner, so Clarkson & the other non-Ivy ECAC teams won't have to be playing any Ivy team to get their game on ESPN Plus. Everybody's home games will be there. (Not positive RPI is included as they were the 1 school that voted against it. Will know soon enough.) Will be nice to be able to catch them against Union, SLU, & the rest. Nothing against seeing them play Cornell, Colgate, Harvard, etc. But getting other games is cool too. Believe it also will apply to the women's team too. Maybe they can get title #4.
  2. Well, when all 3 were healthy down the stretch last year, all 3 were wearing A's. So, though bumping Okposo up to the C on the surface can be viewed as a short term move; it could be argued he was the defacto captain last year (and had worn a letter pretty much ever since O'Reilly left) & this is acknowledging that. So, it's also a chance for management to say they thought these 3 displayed the leadership they wanted & saw no reason to change things up. Though Tuch would be my choice for wearing the C, there really isn't much if any room to say this was anything but a good choice. (Btw, TAS, ftfy. 😉 )
  3. Stealers might end up outscored by the Pens.
  4. Hard to say if Comrie is playing poorly or not. 2 goals were off awful turnovers. One was a PP from Crosby. One was a deflection off Peterka with Krebs sitting an awesome screen. Can't recall the other one from the 1st period. Sabres 3rd-5th pairings & 2nd-5th lines (minus Okposo) can't compete w/ the 90% Pens squad.
  5. Was saying that all summer. Not sure Granato and Adams agree with it. Will find out in the next 4 or so days.
  6. RIP to one of the Sabres from all the way back in '70-'71, Dave Dryden. Ken Dryden's big brother. Was also an innovator in goalie equipment. Not only did he come up with a major innovation to the goalie mask he also made the goalie leg pads significantly lighter. He was '81 and played 4 seasons with the Sabres before bolting to the WHA.
  7. Wifey & I will be there too. Buddy of mine has a HS football game to attend. So, going to be reimmersed back into live hockey w/ a fire hose. 3 games in 3 days.
  8. Don't care if Von Miller is on a show or even if a 22 yo Jennifer Love Hewitt is doing a strip tease on a show, if Andrea Kremer is a headliner, ain't no way no how this kid is intentionally watching it. She is darn near the worst sportscaster in the entire business. (And there are a lot of bad ones.) She LOVES to hear herself talk. Makes 1 of us.
  9. Day-um Thorny, thought you were through blowing up the board's mediocrity with the other thread. But noooooo, you just couldn't help yourself, could you? 😉 🍺
  10. Neither. Have been running my own business for a long time. 😉
  11. That's gold Jerry, GOLD!
  12. In your world it is always used as a negative. In large swaths of the rest of the world, it is used neither as a compliment nor a barb but merely a descriptor of something that is average.
  13. Only played 3 games his 1st year. So, year 2 was his 1st year counting towards a year of service.
  14. This all presumes that with the next CBA (the current version expires in September '26, & Robertson's deal expires just before that) that the age for UFA status &/or years of service to reach UFA status doesn't come down 1 year. The players will be pushing for that & if they get it, he becomes a UFA at the effective expiration of the contract. If they don't, then he signs a 1 year deal & hits UFA the next year, right when he would've otherwise.
  15. For fantasy football, Yahoo now drafts a spare team for leagues with an odd # of teams. Would expect they'll do that for fantasy hockey too, so it likely isn't as big of a deal to get to an even # as in years past. (Pretty sure the commissioner can give that unmanaged team to somebody that joins the league late, too.)
  16. Haven't been to Shea's in about 25 years but am going to see a concert there this weekend. Anybody have any thoughts on where to park? (In a worst case will just park in our normal lot for Sabres games & take the "subway" up.)
  17. That YOU and the publisher of some random dictionary (not to be confused with the Random House Dictionary which people have actually heard of 😉 ) think mediocre is a pejorative does not make it so. This ISN'T Lake Wobegon. And, yes, being in the middle of the pack is about as textbook as you can get for an example of mediocre. Why would the team having been bad the previous year have an effect on whether the team was mediocre in the current year? The Otters getting in with the 16th best record in hockey wouldn't be mediocre, but the Bolts doing the same would be, as one had "broken through" and the other hadn't? That makes no sense. Really not sure whether you'll get any more responses to this as it really isn't worthy of the 2 pages worth of this thread it's already taken up.
  18. Of course they'll very likely need close to 100 points. NHL 0.600 tends to be the magic #. You can get in with less, but that pretty much seals it. But that will likely be the 15th best record in the league, which in a 32 team league is one slot from the definition of mediocre.
  19. Haven't seen the THN rankings here, if somebody has posted them, apologies for the re-post. THN has the Sabres in 6th in the division behind the B's and ahead of Detroit & the Habs. Have their odds of winning the SC at 55-1. The Canes are their choice for champs at 9-1 and the Yotes have the longest odds at 120-1. Power & Quinn both had profiles in their 10 player Rookie Report. No Sabres in the top 50 players but the immediate past captain was ranked 50th.
  20. And, if teams trailing the Caps took more points, then the Caps & other teams ahead of them wouldn't've had as many points. You need to be ahead of the 9th place team to make the playoffs. Period. You might be 16 points ahead of them, but you only actually need to be 1 point ahead of them (to avoid tiebreaker which might work against you). Perhaps, had half of the east not been hot buckets of pus for a majority of their games, it would've taken more than 85 points to be ahead of the "best" of them. They weren't and it didn't. Is what it is. Again, what is your point?
  21. Your point being?
  22. And the 8th place team DID beat the 9th. ANY of the teams above that ONLY needed 85 points to get into the playoffs. The Bruins only needed 85 to make the playoffs. The Swamp Cats only needed 85 to make the playoffs. Etc, etc.
  23. Guess Hodgins got the nod to move to the active roster in Crowder's spot. Wonder if that means it's likely McKenzie is/will be out of concussion protocol by Sunday. Expecting it means they expect it.
  24. QUALITY shot suppression is important. There were a bunch of games under Housley & Krueger that the Sabres outshot their opponent but got smoked and it wasn't just because Buffalo's GTing was that much worse than the backup that got the start for the visitor.
