  1. In the original 1990 CAAA, CO is a listed pollutant. In the IRA, where there is a listing of pollutants, CO2 replaces CO in that context. And, the EPA in 2007 was correct. CO2 is NOT a pollutant. And as CO2 is not a pollutant, there is no "important environmental protection(s)" to be gained by regulating its emissions. IMHO, and apparently in that of the current EPA, the EPA's 2009 endangerment finding was in fact erroneous.
  2. Said it upthread. Provided things go to plan, he probably nets out more money long run by signing a 2 year 1 way deal than he would've having this year's deal be a 2 way deal. On a 2 way deal, he'd probably get $250-300k as an Amerk. And if he spends 90%+ of the year in Ra-cha-cha he'd end up with ~$325-$350k total as a gross. So, he's getting better than $400 more than he would've signing a 2 way deal this year and then a deal for about the same money on a 1 way deal next year as he signed this time. He'd need to get over $1.2MM next year to be ahead of where he'll be now and if he suffers some sort of catastrophic accident he would get almost none of that without already having a contract and if he doesn't play at all in the NHL this year he'd have a tough time negotiating a deal to that for next year. He had 0 leverage. This works for both sides as he doesn't count against the salary cap at all while in Ra-cha-cha and next year the deal will be bumped up to $850k because that is the league minimum salary for next season, but the cap hit will be less than $850 because the contract is for 2 years and it'll be the average of both years nominal salary.
  3. To the bolded, why not? There were 21 teams and only 5 didn't make the playoffs. Except for the Norris, which conveniently was typically the worst division by far so it was only fitting that they got the extra squad that missed the playoffs, only the worst team in each division missed the playoffs. They Sabres have not been the worst, nor even 2nd worst at best, team in the division for 14 straight years. A 14 year playoff drought would not have happened then. Rarely does this kid say things as being unequivocably true when we can't observe them, but that fact is unequivocably true. Now, would it have been a disgracefully bad run? Yes. Would they have ever made it to the 2nd round? No data. But there have been a few versions of this team that personally would take over the 70's era Wings, the Hal Ballard Loafs, any squad (other than the post-mid-90's Sharks) owned by the Gunds except that one miracle squad that merged with Minny to end Moe-ray-all's dynasty because Denis Herron was a horrible puck handler, or the 70's versions of the Caps or Scouts (which in fairness to them were expansion teams in an era when the other teams had no incentive whatsoever to help them overcome being brand new). In only a handful of years were they in that same category of historically bad squads. Several times they've been the NHL equivalent of the pre-Allen 21st century Bills - a bad to mediocre team with no chance whatsoever of winning the championship but not often the slow motion trainwreck that the team was during the tank portion of this extended stay in purgatory.
  4. No, the Clean Air Act does NOT list CO2 as a pollutant. Carbon MONOXIDE is a pollutant per that law, not CO2. And, as CO is a killer, it is appropriate to be regulated. And perusing the IRA, yes, in it they do substitute CO2 for CO. CO is not listed anywhere in the IRA. So, apparently we no longer care about limiting actual pollutants. And, no, CO2 should not be considered a pollutant. It, along with water, is the natural byproduct of complete oxidation of hydrocarbons.
  5. You don't know much history of the league, do you? Yes, it is the longest running cluster #### in league history, but honestly not sure it even makes the top 10 in league history of horribleness and definitely not the top 5. And if current ownership had owned the team back pre-90s, the playoff drought wouldn't be a thing. A ten year streak of getting past the 1st round might've been eclipsable for this crew, but they wouldn't have come close to 14 years of missing the playoffs in those eras.
  6. No, that doesn't. But even if it did, that came out in 2022. The EPA has been regulating it as a pollutant since 2009. Again what STATUTE declares CO2 (NOT CO) a pollutant?
  7. Purely out of curiosity, which statute defines CO2 as a pollutant?
  8. Found out my local watering hole that was closed for about 4 months for kitchen renovations ain't reopening. Which stinks. But went to the original establishment tonight for the 1st time and found out they'll extend my mug club membership an extra year; which is nice but would rather have the one less than 3 miles from our house reopening. And @Eleven if you ever do come in for trivia, it's now on Tuesday night. (Wtf wants to do trivia on a Tuesday. Wednesday's the day.)
  9. That's a big concern. It seems way too often that D-men fall off a bit in their 1st year in a new location needing to learn the new system (when they go to a place that actually employs one; and not to go too Neil Peart here, but if you choose not to system you still have A system 😉 ) and learn their new partner. Hoping they'll fit right in (Bernard-Docker seemed to, maybe he'd've slumped off this year without the adrenaline of midseason change when you're already in game condition), but wouldn't be shocked if it takes a significant portion of the season for him and Timmons to do so.
  10. Mods, please feel free to move this to the politics club if this is too political, but considering half the people here won't even remember who he was, doubt it's really all that political, and it isn't meant to be political. Now, with all THAT said. Does anybody else get a Dukakis wearing a helmet in a tank vibe from this photo?
  11. Don't know. It WAS the Sabres plan until Murray got punted. Theoretically, it kind of was supposed to be last season's plan but the implementation left a lot to be desired and the plan seemed to get scrapped somewhere midseason to go back to more of a Granato style open ice possession game.
  12. Yes, it appears (and has appeared since Lyon was signed) the plan is for Levi to get the bulk of the work in Ra-cha-cha this year and be available to bump up should either of the other 2 falter or get injured. And his contract is low enough that none of it will count against the Sabres cap while in Ra-cha-cha. So, he might've been able to get a higher annual salary if the 1st year were a 2 way deal; but this likely would net him more money ove the 2 years.
  13. Puckpedia had him by 2+ hours.
  14. No, the youngest team shouldn't be dictating who gets traded. But it turns out Seravali was right that Peterka wanted nothing to do with being here, apparently the Captain was ambivilent to him coming back, and he actually had value on the trade market. And with all that said, not happy he was traded. He was one of the players that was fun to watch the last couple of years. And don't believe they got full value for him. Now, if they use some of the cap that still remains that was freed up by trading him, it'll look a lot better.
  15. Could've sworn that was brought up here late in the season. And the part in parenthesis was simply stating how, if true, it would correlate similarly to when Drury did in fact say that the team would be better without Satan than with him. And NO, am not saying Dahlin's displeasure with him rose to that level.
  16. He wasn't arbitration eligible. Not sure if he could've received an offer or not. Know Levi couldn't, don't believe Peterka could either but not positive about that. There also were RUMORS that Dahlin didn't want him on the roster (providing vibes similar to when Drury told management to punt Satan at all costs and they then literally let him walk as a FA).
  17. True he was. But unlike a player that after his 1st stint in the NHL after his college career ended hasn't had success at the NHL level and is still eiigible to be sent back to the A without having to clear waivers; Peterka was a fixture on the big club and had legitimate trade value. A guy that has no appreciable value outside his current club deciding to make waves won't really get very far. And it does appear he did gain a concession from the Sabres - per Puckpedia he's on a 1 way deal. Unless Bryson gets sent down, he'll be pretty much the highest paid player on the Amerks.
  18. Significantly less than this kid expected him to get. But it makes sense as he has absolutely 0 leverage. Wonder if the 2nd year is a 1 way deal?
  19. Fair deuce. But regardless of the reason why, he WAS the guy that was playing with Thompson down the stretch and if Norris and Thompson don't click, he's likely the "next man up."
  20. Don't believe it's so much that the guys entering their 3rd year are penned into the lineup so much as we might see a 3rd year guy and a 2nd year guy penned onto Thompson's line which will essentially be the 1st line. AND it's possible that Quinn, after as awful a start to a season as you can have and NOT get sent back to Ra-cha-cha MIGHT be on the 2nd line. And Doan could find himself in the top 6 in place of one of those other 3. That is a LOT of youth to give significant roles to. Now if they were spread across the 2nd - 4th lines, nobody would really bat an eyelash at them provided the guys stepping up actually get the job done.
  21. Umm, don't believe it is the fanbase that is giving serious consideration to lining him up next to Thompson (particularly if Norris & Thompson don't gel). He should not be the #1 C at least until he gets a little stronger in his own end. But whether he's 1C, 2C, 3C or 1/2LW; none of us have any say whatsoever in which of those he's lined up into.
  22. What, you don't like Adelphia's color scheme?
  23. Yep. (Particularly to the stuff about Benny.) Would really like to see Ruff come up with a lineup that doesn't have both Benson and Kulich on the top line. Barring another move (and one HAS to be coming, right? it just makes so darn much sense (yeah, yeah, wishful thinking)) expect they won't both be there on day 1, but expect they will be before October is out. They could be great there a couple of seasons from now, but right now, would rather have more experienced players with Thompson letting the kids not face the same quality of opponents that Thompson will always get on the road and usually get at home. (AKA, either the other team's top offensive line or their top defensive line depending upon the makeup and philosophy of the opponent that night.)
  24. Pretty sure Pegula and Adams like him. Lindy probably likes him as a person too. But being a good guy and allegedly good at development coaching doesn't mean he's remotely competent to be an NHL assistant. And there was a report here from our usual breaker of all news Sabres that the Sabres did make an offer to a coach to take over Wilford's role but were rebuffed by the guy they made the offer to. Would like to have seen them then reach out to a plan B, plan C, or plan D guy at that point. But, again, somebody likes HIM, not necessarily the results he gets. And maybe this is the year he finally understands that being ok with 2 D going behind the net, leaving the C to try to cover 2 guys in the slot or having your D let a guy simply stand in front of your goalie without trying to move him away, or being OK with the D not recognizing that a player is by himself in the low slot a mere tick-tack pass away from toeing it into the open net are not good things and that he can actively teach against doing that and actually reduce guys ice time when they do those sorts of things. He also can get on the nuts of F's that stand around lost in their own end. (Whether they report to him in that end or not; doesn't matter, get their heads out of their bippies. He's in charge of the play in that zone. This is not Don Granato's Sabres team anymore. Somebody should let Marty know.)
