The bigger issue for me isn’t whether the assistant coaches are good or bad (which may or not be the case) but rather are the coaches the HC wants to work with. My understanding is that because some of his coaches were under-contract the HC had to keep them on because the owner didn’t want to buy out the contracts. If that is the case, then it’s another example among many examples why this franchise is such a shabby organization.

Yup. That's how you build a hockey team, and that's how you can rebuild quickly on the fly. Lessons there. Consider all the trades and signings they have made and what type of players they have drafted. They do not sit and wait. Crazy ending to L.A. Edmonton. That loss should demoralize Oilers after the comeback.

I don't understand this sort of statement. Who is "throwing the baby out with the bathwater"? The AHL is supposed to function as a development league. It's not punitive. It's beneficial. Remember Thompson came back a much better player. Benson would benefit from it. I firmly believe that and he would be a better player sooner if he went down for the year. If Sabres were actually in the hunt he could come up end of the year if not sooner. If the timing was right. Sabres fans have come to accept a very unusual and skewed vision of how hockey players develop and mature. I guess it's the Sabres' way.

If they aren't trading Hughes, the Canucks best assets are: Good veteran 2nd-pairing defencemen Hronek and Petterson on long-term deals Good veteran 2nd-line winger Debrusk on a long-term deal Veteran soon-to-be UFAs Conor Garland and Thatcher Demko Good 2nd-tier prospects Tom Willander and Jonathan lekkerimaki. The 14th overall pick in this year's draft 45-point former star centre Elias Pettersson and the 7 years and 80-million-plus left on his contract. What mix of those players would you take for a 23-year-old 1C with 5 years left on an $8M deal? Now how much more would they have to add to also acquire a 21-year-old defenceman who has already topped 40 points twice in his young career. Make New Jersey an offer they cant refuse.

I was worried for a minute there. One takeaway from the presser was the Ruff knows his defenders can't defend worth a crap. They likely don't want to pay Byram, I think he is the guy traded away. Sadly I think the rest of the sorry D group returns. Maybe the return from the Byram trade gets Dahlin or Power a partner. Adams delusional comments make me think that he believes JBD can play in our top 4, possible as Power's partner. Overall, if Adams returns, I'm expecting most of the run it back roster to return.

Every good franchise gives kids space to learn. Every top player spent a few years learning, adjusting and getting better. The solution isn't throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

See, where we differ, is I'm tired of having players on the roster who need to learn. Using the NHL as a training ground. Losing games while we grow and learn. That stuff is for your AHL team. NHL team should be too busy competing to spend all their time teaching. Get me some veterans who already know how to play.

The injury is overplayed but Jack Hughes is also injured and some believe injury prone. All I'm saying is I think Rutherford will TRY to do this. NJ may prefer the reverse absolutely. But you never know. Some offers are hard to refuse.

If I’m McDavid I test the market after next season. He’s not gonna win in Edmonton. Their bottom six isn’t that good and they have Darnel Nurse making way too much money. Shaky goaltending in Skinner. They were a better team last year.
