As good as Tuch is at blocking shots and takeaways the rest of his defensive side of the game is not up with the elite defensive forwards. Tuch does not even have the best forward defensive metrics on the Sabres.

Right now, the 2026 UFA list of forwards has big names on it (McDavid, Eichel, Kaprizov). But there's a high likelihood none of them reach UFA -- they'll extend or manage a sign-and-trade. Of the next tier: Kyle Connor, Panarin, Kempe, Necas, Tuch... One more all-around good season, maybe "lead" the Sabres to a playoff berth... Tuch would be one of the top UFAs out there because a few of those guys get extended, too. Guentzel just signed for $9M. The projected cap in 2026 is $104M. Live view of Tuch's agent...

@mjd1001 As for cozens specifically I’ll just reiterate the above The sabres have gone through very good stretches with cozens they have been through good stretches without the sabres couldn’t find a way to win without *mattias samuelsson* a couple seasons ago. Remember that stat? Small sample sizes are exceptionally volatile. Mostly what we are seeing is correlation and not causation and thinking we can properly ***** through that murkiness is a fools errand. The larger the sample size the better the salient point: it’s not addition by subtraction. We aren’t better. We have the opportunity to be if we are aggressive in the offseason. almost all of my efforts on this board currently are centred around pushing back against the idea of approaching the roster in a way that hopes or assumes the best assume it’s all folly. Assume it’s a sham. Assume you need to do a lot to make the playoffs. What on earth is the benefit of doing the opposite

I think about the current situation with Kozak versus Östlund. Kozak has put in his time and I think he is NHL or at least tweener material, and more time in the A isn't going to improve him too much more. But he tops out as a 4C, at very best a 3C (doubtful). Östlund has developed all season and was promoted because he earned it when Kozak went down. In the depth chart down the road, Östlund almost certainly tops out over Kozak. But at the beginning of the season, Kozak slotted higher than Östlund (which is why he was called up first). In terms of internal competition, I would say Östlund is ahead of Kozak with a very small sample size, but I also think Östlund may benefit from a little more time in the AHL. It's an interesting case study.

Not that there's anything wrong with that... 😁 -
So really, the start of the year everyone everywhere was like Detroit, Ottawa, Buffalo, at least one of these three is set to step up and which one will it be? Some gave Columbus an outside shot and the Rags were expected to be in it but that final spot was there for one of Detroit, Ottawa, Buffalo. Ottawa got it. Montreal is the shocker and likewise the fall of the Rags (Bruins fall was overdue and expected. Just a question of how far and how fast). So what's the difference? It's Ullmark. Ottawa isn't "better". We are just as good and beat them consistently but Ullmark stole games for them this year. He had several hot streaks and they won many games close that they had no business winning. Put Ullmark on Detroit and they are definitely in. Their goaltending was worse than ours. But Ottawa two years running now saw their biggest flaw and tried to fix it. First they tried with the guy available Korpisalo. That failed so they traded for Ullmark. They made the necessary moves. Adams? He failed to keep Ullmark. He ran with rookies and old cast offs. Our failure is totally on ADAMS. There is no organization in hockey that would let him keep his job for botching that except the Sabres, and that's your central problem.

No Eichel association? I’m surprised Ya I have a pretty thorough indexing of poster thoughts, one of the downfalls of a near eidetic memory. I have no idea if the franchise moves forward once Adams is canned. My stance on Adams is rooted in the fact he should be fired because he demonstrably deserves to be fired. For performance. To me, I struggle to see why further justification would be needed: but we’ve had this discussion. You have mentioned it will only result in more of the same if the rest of the bones of the operation remain and I have reiterated multiple times that fact doesn’t dissuade me from making the right choice: two wrongs don’t make a right. I would take a level of satisfaction merely from Adams being held to appropriate standards having standards might seem trivial to some but we don’t have anything else. The team doesn’t win. They don’t care about the fans. I do. The fans deserve action

Pittsburgh winning it and getting McKenna for a perfect 3 in a row would seem suspicious to say the least but just as long as the Rags don't win another lottery I'm probably okay with it all.

That is the tough thing about Tuch. He is very valuable. In my opinion, the 3rd best player on this team. But how do you deal with his next contract? -3rd best player. Fan favorite. From the area. He has an A. -His next contract will START when he is 29, going on 30. Players, on average (not all the time but on average), peak right about the age he is now. He my very well be starting his 'production decline' as he starts a new deal. How much do you pay him, for how long? Give him a 3-4 year offer and he may balk at that, and have a lot of fans that say the offer is offensive. Give him 6-7 and its ALMOST a certainty he will be overpaid for the majority of the deal. I have no idea how this plays out.

They don't bother hitting us. I've seen them play this year where they do forecheck though. I have to wonder a little if Brind'Amour isn't pacing them feeling they burn out in the playoffs with the pace they use at that time. We will see when the playoffs start if they still have it or not. I see Florida doing a whole lot of that too. They float a lot this year and it's either that they don't care cause they were cup winners last year or they know they will have a long haul and have to pace the season. Again, we will see when the playoffs start. -
Going forward how far? Three years? Sure. Six years? I would hope so, but..... he's probably heading into steady decline, but maybe not. Who knows which players will age well and which won't?

Sorry, maybe my memory is short...or I read too much of this forum....but I sometimes have difficulty keeping opinions of some users differernt from others. I respond to what is in front of me. If I search for the opinions of every user that I reply to...I'd be spending more time searching users and their opinions than I do at my job. I know you don't like Adams and you think that the franchise moves forward when he is gone. I know you think Bryam is over-rated by many users....and I agree with that. I honestly do not know your exact opinion of Cozens as a player. And I stopped using the search function on here a long time ago....If a converstaion is currently happening I will re-iterate my point for those who may not know what it is...rather than forcing them to search, as that can be very time consuming.

What? That’s terrible

First Greg Millen and now Ray Shero. Too young for both men.

I guess you guys are just losing me with the premise. You are such a thorough poster I’m surprised you don’t already know my opinion on this? have I posted about it in length a billion times: yes am i now frequently also resorting to emojis when I see points I have already responded to (that’s the key): also yes You already know what I am gojng to say It’s short form I understand you like to lay it all out, long form, every time, re-iterated: I do that too sometimes. But when it’s been said a million times the search function works too. This is why I mentioned post count so you’d know I wasn’t being disingenuous: i do in fact post my feelings out a lot it was a fact not a brag of supposed quality. I ACTUALLY have posted about it a zillion times I’m not being difficult

Because I agree with him. I have posts where I share my opinions on Cozens, many times replying and engaging due to replying to others comments, and yet I'm curious as to the downpost emojis from you. I do what to know, what is your opinion of Cozens? What kind of player do you think he is, was it wrong for the Sabres to give up on him? I keep seeing the 'dislikes', but I haven't seen you put your stake in the ground definitevely. I'd like to know, when someone disagrees with me or anyone else, where they actually stand? Its a lot easier to disagree with someone, while leaving saracastic posts or ones that are often vague. Thats fine, its a message board, but if you are going to disagree with me or someone else on a topic, I'd just like to know the specific opinion where the differences lie.
