‘But the strength of the Sabres is clearly on the blue line, where they boast two defencemen under age 23 with Norris Trophy-calibre potential — fellow No. 1 draft picks Rasmus Dahlin, 22, and Owen Power, 20. Dahlin, second among NHL defencemen in scoring this season, is already among the favourites to be runner-up to the award’s presumptive winner, the resurgent Erik Karlsson of the San Jose Sharks. Power, who is from Mississauga, isn’t far behind Dahlin, said Sabres head Don Granato. Considering Dahlin plays an average of 26 minutes a night, third most in the league behind Cale Makar and Drew Doughty, and that Power leads all rookies logging 24 minutes a game, it’s safe to say the duo is a huge reason why the Sabres, after so many seasons in the wilderness, are in the thick of the hunt for an Eastern Conference wild-card spot.’
