‘Detroit may offer the clearest deck from a position standpoint. While the Leafs and Sabres have recently drafted their future number one centers, the Red Wings just watched Pavel Datsyuk head for Russia. They have been in the playoffs twenty five seasons in a row so it’s hard to say they’re not better off right now than Toronto and Buffalo. However, making the playoffs and being a Stanley Cup contender are not exactly the same thing. The past couple of seasons have seen the Red Wings continue their impressive streak of playoff appearances with little hope of actually winning it all. Does Stamkos going there in place of Datsyuk alter that or simply help them tread water for a few more years before they finally realize that a bottoming out is needed? That’s a question Stamkos needs to seriously sit with.’
