‘While the Aud contained about 16,000 seats when it closed in 1996, the moist, moldy interior of the idle building took its toll on all the fabric-covered seats, leaving only the wooden blue section and plastic orange section seats as possibilities for salvage. After further review, city and harbor agency crews concluded that it would be too costly to remove the orange seats, which are bolted to the Aud’s concrete bowl. It was also determined that only 2,000 of the 4,000 blues would have an Aud afterlife.’
