‘The Oilers had their eye on Martin Biron early in the season and were dangling defenseman Steve Staios. The Sabres first wanted to see how Ryan Miller stood up to NHL competition and later were forced to keep Biron after Miller broke his thumb. Edmonton eventually lost patience, backed off Biron and swapped a first-round pick for Roloson before the NHL trade deadline. The Sabres traded away Mika Noronen for a second-round pick and failed to pick up a defenseman.’
