‘Numminen was diagnosed with a dilated aorta in 2003-04, missing five games with the Dallas Stars, but returning for the postseason. He also underwent a procedure – unrelated to the dilated aorta – to cauterize a stimulator in his heart and eliminate the need to take medication for an irregular heartbeat. He was cleared that summer to play in the 2004 World Cup of Hockey.’
