'The Sabres tied the score on their first shot of the second period when Ales Kotalik took a lead pass from Jean-Pierre Dumont, took two strides over the blue line and blasted a shot high over the right shoulder of Flyers goaltender Robert Esche. Esche called the goal a "poor, poor, poor, poor, poor" one, but was most impressed that he didn't allow it to affect the rest of his game. He finished with 25 saves, including 12 in the third.'
